INTRODUCTION
Fecha firma: 01/02/2025 10:22 | Hash: 49d502977f709236367b10c36ec8fe62.

The subject of Macroeconomics is part of the second year of the Degree in Business Administration and Management. With
Macroeconomics, economists intend to answer questions that affect all people and each one from the different countries of the
world. Questions such as: Why are there rich countries and poor countries?; Why are we richer than in the past?; Why does
unemployment occur? What causes inflation?; Why does economic activity increase in some periods and decrease in others?
How do the economic policy decisions of one economy affect others? etc. In this sense, Macroeconomics can be interpreted as
the study of the behavior of the economy as a whole. Therefore, this discipline focuses on the aggregate behavior of the different
economic agents, agents that can be grouped into consumers, firms, and government.
Q2803011B UNIVERSIDAD REY JUAN CARLOS

Macroeconomics, like microeconomics, relies on models when dealing with the different questions raised. These models, greatly
simplifying, can focus on the study of the long or the short term. In the long-run economic growth studies the productive capacity
of the countries and, therefore, the increase in the standard of living of citizens. The short-term, on the other hand, focuses on
the study of what is called the economic cycle, that is, the continuous rises (expansions) and falls (recessions) of the aggregate
economic activity. In this sense, some reasons to study Macroeconomics can be highlighted. One of them is that
macroeconomics is a discipline that interests us all insofar as it directly affects our lives. Another, which is applicable to any other
branch of knowledge, consists of the need of people, and above all those who have certain levels of training, to have a general
culture that allows them to understand the information that appears in the different media.

VII.-Assessment methods

VII.A.-Assessment weighting

Continuous ordinary assessment:

The distribution and characteristics of the assessment tests are those described below. Only in exceptional case and for special
reasons may the teacher add changes to the Guide. These changes will require the prior consultation with the Subject Head and
the prior and explicit authorisation of the Degree Programme Coordinator, who will notify the Vice-Rector?s office in charge of
Academic Affairs of the modifications made. In any case, the changes proposed must take into account the stipulations of the
verified report. In order for these changes to take effect, they must be duly communicated at the start of the course to the
students using Aula Virtual.
The combination of activities that are not re-assessable cannot exceed 50% of the subject grade and, in general, cannot have a
minimum grade (except for the case of laboratory or clinical work placements, where duly justified), and tests which exceed 60%

of the subject weighting cannot be added.

Extraordinary assessment: Students who do not manage to pass the ordinary assessment, or who did not attend, will be
subject to completion of an extraordinary assessment to verify their acquisition of the skills established in the guide, only for
activities that are re-assessable.

Continuous ordinary evaluation:

The distribution and characteristics of the evaluation items are described below. Only in exceptional cases and especially
motivated, the teacher may incorporate adaptations in the Guide. Such changes will require, after consulting the Head of the
Subject, the prior and express authorization of the Degree Coordinator, who will notify the Vicerectorado with competencies in
matters of Academic Planning the modification made. In any case, the proposed modifications must be coherent with what is
established in the verified report. For such changes to be effective, they must be duly communicated to the students at the
beginning of the course through the Aula Virtual.
The sum of non-revaluable activities may not exceed 50% of the course grade and, in general, may not have a minimum
grade (except in the case of laboratory practices or clinical practices, when duly justified), avoiding incorporating tests that
exceed 60% of the weighting of the subject.

Extraordinary evaluation: Students who do not manage to pass the ordinary evaluation, or have not applied, will have
to carry out an extraordinary evaluation exam to verify the acquisition of the competencies established in the guide, only of the
revaluable activities.

The in-person theoretical-practical evaluation test and the resolution of problems and practical cases, referring to the ES3 and
ES4 evaluation systems, will be conducted in the classroom.
Practical in-class activities aim to assess student progress on a regular basis, encouraging active participation, which cannot be
applied effectively in a reassessment.
The final distribution and details of the characteristics of the evaluation tests will be communicated in the first weeks of the
academic year.
The practical activities in class are intended to regularly assess student progress, promoting active participation, which cannot be
effectively applied in a re-evaluation. Students who complete the activities related to the evaluation systems SE1 and SE4 during
the academic year and do not pass the in-person theoretical-practical evaluation test in the regular session will have their grades
for these activities preserved for the extraordinary call.

Calculation of the global grade:

Vicerrectorado de Calidad y Estrategia Page 9

MACROECONOMICS

•The final grade or global grade is calculated as the weighted average of the grades of the evaluation activities, once the
minimum grade of the written theoretical-practical test has been passed (minimum grade of 5).
•To pass the course, the overall grade must be 5 or higher, as long as a minimum grade of 5 has been achieved in the face-to-
face theoretical-practical written test (ES3).
•Students who do not exceed 5 in the Theoretical-practical written test (ES3) will have the final grade obtained in said test.

Extraordinary call

In an extraordinary call, only the ES3 evaluation activity (theoretical-practical written test) can be reassessed if the minimum
score has not been reached (or if the student did not attend it).
The reassessment of the ES3 evaluation activity (theoretical-practical written test) will be conducted on the official date
indicated for the extraordinary examination session.
To pass the course, the overall score must be 5 or higher, once the minimum score of 5 in the theoretical-practical written test
has been achieved. In other words, the grades obtained in the non-reassessable evaluation activities will be reweighted in the
Fecha firma: 01/02/2025 10:22 | Hash: 49d502977f709236367b10c36ec8fe62.

extraordinary examination session following the same criteria as the continuous evaluation in the regular session.
In the event that a grade of 5 is not achieved in the SE3 evaluation test, the one obtained in said test will be assigned as the final
grade.
