CO2 Understand the various web analytics tools and platforms, including Google Analytics and Web Master

Aim: -
Determine the domain age, Alexa rank, Moz rank, and crawl statistics (for Google, Yahoo, and Bing)
of a website. Additionally, explain the steps to generate a Google Analytics tracking ID for the website.
Objective: -
To Find domain age Alexarank moz rank of the website and generate Analytics tracking ID for the
website.
Input/Apparatus used:- Domain age checker, Moz rank checker, Alexa rank checker Calculate domain
age, alexarank, moz rank and crawl statistics of website
Procedure:
1. Domain Age:
You can check the domain age using domain registration lookup tools like WHOIS. Websites like
WHOIS.net or ICANN WHOIS Lookup provide registration details, including the creation date of a domain.
2. Alexa Rank:
Visit the Alexa website (https://www.alexa.com/) and enter the URL of the website you want to check. Alexa
provides a global ranking for websites based on their traffic.

3. Moz Rank:
The Moz Rank can be checked using Moz's Open Site Explorer tool (https://moz.com/link- explorer). Enter
the URL you want to check, and Moz will provide various metrics, including Moz Rank.

4. Crawl Statistics (Google, Yahoo, Bing):


For Google, you can use Google Search Console (https://search.google.com/search- console/). It provides
information about how Googlebot crawls your site, indexing issues, and more.
For Bing, you can use Bing Webmaster Tools (https://www.bing.com/toolbox/webmaster). It offers insights
into how Bing crawls and indexes your website.
Yahoo largely relies on Bing's index, so the Bing Webmaster Tools information would also apply to Yahoo.
Steps to generate a tracking ID for a website in Google Analytics:
1. Sign in to Google Analytics:

o Visit the Google Analytics website (https://analytics.google.com/).


o Sign in using your Google account. If you don't have an account, you'll need to create one.
Step 2: Create a New Account
1. Once logged in, click on Admin (gear icon) in the bottom-left corner.
2. Under the Account column, click + Create Account.
3. Fill in the details:
o Account Name: Enter a name for your account (e.g., "Abc").
o Configure data sharing settings (optional).
4. Click Next.

Step 3: Set Up a Property


1. Under Property Settings, enter:
o Property Name: e.g., "CraftedCoffee Website".
o Reporting Time Zone: Select your region's time zone.
o Currency: Choose your preferred currency.
2. Click Next.
Step 4: Provide Business Details
1. Fill in the required details:
o Industry Category: Select your website's niche (e.g., Food & Drink).
o Business Size: Choose the size of your business.
2. Select your intended usage of Google Analytics.
3. Click Create.
Step 5: Choose a Data Stream
1. You’ll now set up a data stream. Choose the platform for your website:
o Click Web.
2. Enter:
o Website URL: Enter your website address (e.g., https://craftedcoffee.github.io).
o Stream Name: Name the stream (e.g., "CraftedCoffee Site").
3. Click Create Stream.

Step 6: Get Your Tracking ID


1. After creating the stream, you’ll see a Measurement ID (e.g., G-XXXXXXXXXX).
2. Copy this Tracking ID.
Step 7: Add the Tracking Code to Your Website
1. Copy the Global Site Tag (gtag.js) snippet provided in the data stream.
2. Paste this code into the <head> section of your website's HTML file.

Step 8: Verify the Setup


1. Save and upload your website with the tracking code.
2. Go back to Google Analytics and check the Realtime tab to see if your site is tracking visits.

Done! Your website is now linked to Google Analytics, and you can start monitoring traffic and user
behavior.
Step 9: Verify Tracking in Google Analytics
1. Go to your Google Analytics Dashboard.
2. Navigate to the Admin section and click on Data Streams under your property settings.
3. Select your data stream, and click View Tagging Instructions to ensure the tracking tag is set up
properly.
4. Go to the Realtime tab in the Analytics dashboard:
o Open your website in a browser.
o Interact with the site (e.g., refresh the page or click links).
o You should see real-time activity reflecting your interaction.

Step 10: Configure Custom Reports


1. In the Customization section, create custom reports to track data tailored to your needs:
o Traffic sources (where visitors come from).
o User behavior (most viewed pages, time spent).
o Audience demographics (age, location, device type).
Step 11: Monitor Key Metrics
Regularly check important metrics in Google Analytics:
1. Audience Overview:
o Number of users, new users, and returning users.
2. Acquisition:
o Where your traffic comes from (e.g., search engines, social media, or direct).
3. Behavior:
o Which pages are most visited and how users interact with your site.

Step 12: Optimize Your Website


1. Use the insights from Google Analytics to improve your website:
o Optimize slow-loading pages (check Site Speed Report).
o Update content on pages with high bounce rates.
o Focus on top-performing traffic sources.

These tools automatically calculate the domain age for you:
1. Go to:

o https://websiteseochecker.com/domain-age-checker
2. Enter your domain name (e.g., craftedcoffee.com).
3. Click Check Domain Age.
4. The tool will display the exact age in years, months, and days.

Key Information from Domain Age Check Tools


• Created On / Registration Date: The date the domain was first registered.
• Updated On: The last time the domain's information was updated.
• Expires On: The domain's current expiration date.
Use Alexa.com for Website Ranking
1. Go to Web:
o Web provides global and country ranking data.
2. Enter the Website URL:
o Type the domain (e.g., apnishopiee.epizy.com) in the search bar.
3. View the Rankings:
o Global Rank: The site's popularity worldwide.
o Country Rank: Its ranking within specific countries.
o Engagement metrics like visits, time on site, and bounce rate.
