Lesson Plan

Topic Name – Balance diet

Time – 3 hrs

Date- 27 July, 2023

Class - 10th

Student count – 23

Facilitator – Keshav Sul

Objectives

1. Students will be able to understand the concept of a balanced diet.

2. Students will be able to understand functions of essential nutrients with their sources.
3. Students will be able to be aware about routine food intake and best suitable diet for
themselves.
4. Students will be able to understand the concept of self management for better health.

Key points –

a) What–
1) Concept of balanced diet and food nutrients.
2) Requirements of nutrients with food pyramid.
3) Functions of essential nutrients like carbohydrates, proteins, minerals,
vitamins and fats.
4) Importance of a proper and nutrient rich diet for our health.
5) Concept of self management

b) How –
1) First facilitate classroom discussion on their routine diet.
2) Explain the functions of each nutrient with their sources.
3) Conduct a game of healthy or unhealthy diet by using charts & posters.
4) Explain the deficiency symptoms of each nutrient.

c) Why –
1. Our diet has an impact on our health so we need to track our daily food intake for good
health.
2. Current generation gives more emphasis on fitness so it will help them to
understand more clearly.

Raw material – Notebook, Pen/pencil, Charts, posters, cards, etc.

Opening

1) Facilitate general classroom discussion on what they eat as a routine diet.


2) Share examples of famous personalities (What they follow to maintain health) for
better context building.

Practical activity:

Introduction of new material -

1) First share a few examples of cereals, pulses, oil seeds, dairy products, meat, etc and
ask them what they eat most.
2) Explain in detail about essential nutrients with their functions and sources.

3) Took revision of class 9 session on characteristics of raw materials.

Guided practice –

1) Facilitate general classroom discussion on deficiency symptoms of essential


nutrients and how it impacts our health.
2) Conduct a game (Pehchan kaun) by using visual cards to understand the difference
between healthy & unhealthy diet. (communication skills)

Closing –

1. Students will evaluate their diet and share their observations about their own diet.
2. Share detailed information about the food pyramid, importance of a healthy
nutritious diet for good health.

Assessment–

1) What do you mean by a balanced diet?


2) What is the function of protein in the human body?
3) Which are the sources of fats
4) Which are types of vitamins?
5) Which minerals are the required minerals for the human body.
6) Draw a food pyramid.

Homework –
1. Track your daily diet for a week by making charts in your notebook.

Linkage with Academic

1. Class 10th – science –II Chapter 2 – Life process of living organism part –I –
Connect the whole topic as content is the same.
2. Class 10th – Science-I Chapter 2 – Classification of elements – Take revision of
elements as it matches with essential nutrients.

1. Conducted Dum-sheras games using nutrient charts create a competitive and


learning atmosphere in the classroom.
2. Session helps to create awareness on healthy eating habits.
