Regarding health sector, ministry of health is making endeavours to develop and promote health
services. To do so, two objectives are laid down.

The three strategies to implement these objectives are -

According to these aims and objectives, our ministry of Health implanted Public Health

program widened to National Health Plan (NHP). NHP I is from 1991 to 1992 and NHP II last from
1993 to 1996. According to development in political, economic and social development of the country,
the Ministry of Health renewed NHP whose period is 1996-2001.

Generally NHP includes -

 Organization and management program
To be able to carry out these duties successfully, we must have both theoretical knowledge

course to the allotted Township. There, we are to study the functions and activities of Township
Health Department, difficulties in carrying out these functions and how these problems are solved.

By chance, our group of (15) members had allotment to Pya Pon Township. We left
Mandalay by car at 8.00 pm on the 16 th March 2012, accompanied and supervised by Dr. Su
Yee Toe and Dr. Nyein Mon Mon Oo, demonstrators of Department of Preventive and Social
Medicine. On arrival to Pya Pon at 2.30 pm on the 17 th March, the MS and the staffs from Township
Health Department warmly welcomed us all.

During our stay, we can learn the important roles of Township Health Department. We
studied the health status of the community, socio-economic conditions and many other health related
activities. We visited not only the town but also station hospitals and rural health centers. We studied
the prevalent diseases and learn the difficulties faced during performing their functions in some
programs such as immunization, sanitation, and birth spacing. We also actively participated in several
health activities. We can also learn the importance of coordination of NGOs (maternal and child
welfare association, Red Cross association, etc.) and other government sectors (Township
Development Committee, Township information and public relation Department, etc.)

Our field training gave us valuable outcomes. Now we are able to correlate the theories and
practical works. We become realize that hospital service is not an adequate implementation. The
objectives and prevention of the diseases play a central role in fact. We also noted the differences
between theories and practical works. At last, we can give some discussions and suggestions in this
report simply overview of our works.

This paper may not reflect full picture of the health status of the Township. However, we
dare to say that this paper will give the reader the information about the health conditions of Pya Pon
Township to a certain extent.
