Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics

This detailed lesson plan for Grade 6 mathematics focuses on teaching students about exponents and exponential notation. The lesson includes objectives, materials needed, and a structured procedure with activities for both teacher and students. By the end of the lesson, students should be able to describe exponents, calculate values in exponential notation, and work collaboratively in groups.

A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 6

Division: ANTIQUE Grade level: Grade 6

Name: Shaina Marie M. Berto
BEED 3-A
Teaching Date and Time: November 28, 2024 8:30 a.m Quarter: 2nd

Duration: 45 minutes

I.OBJECTIVES
Content Standard The learners demonstrates understanding of exponents.
Performance Standard The learners are able to apply knowledge and understanding in terms of
exponential notation.
Learning Objectives At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
1. Describe the exponent and the base in a number expressed in a
number in exponential notation.
2. Give the value of numbers expressed in exponential notation.
3. Practice cooperation in group activities.
II.CONTENT
Topic Exponents and Exponential Notation
Materials Needed Flashcards, Chalk n’ board, cut-outs cartolina, pictures, TV and real
objects
References 21st Century Mathletes 6 pp. 174-176, Curriculum Guide, Teacher’s
Guide pp. 63, Learner’s Manual, pp. 174-176
Values Integration Cooperation
III.PROCEDURE
TEACHER’S ACTIVTY STUDENTS ACTIVITY
A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
1. Greetings
Good morning class! Good Morning Ma’am

2. Prayer
Let us stand for a prayer. Let us put ourselves in God’s presence…
, please lead the prayer.
Jnae
3. Opening Song

(God’s love me)

4. Attendance Checking
None ma’am.
Is there anyone absent for today?

Very good!

B. REVIEW
Class, do you still remember our lesson yesterday? Yes Ma’am!
Alright!
Jane, what is our lesson yesterday?
It is all about percentage ma’am.
Very Good!
Seems you’ve understand our last lesson. So now, we
will have a new lesson, but before that I have here
some flashcards.

C. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES

1. MOTIVATION

I have here a flashcards that I am going to show to you

and everyone will going to answer it according to the
following multiplication sentence.

2x2x2 6x6 3x3x3

7x7 5x5x5x5

Very Good!
So what have you noticed? They are repeated numbers ma’am.

Very Good!
Those repeated numbers have significance in our
topic. .

2. LESSON PROPER

A. Presentation
Exponential Notation - is the shorthand way of
writing repeated multiplication and division. It is
necessary to keep track of extremely large and small
numbers.

The Exponential Notation has two parts:

Base: The number multiplied by itself repeatedly.
Exponent: The number of times the base is used as a
factor.
For example:
2⁸
What does 2 mean? 2 is an example of a number
written in exponential notation. It is read as "2 to the
eighth power", "two to the eighth" or "2 raised to 8.
2 is the base.
It is a number that gets multiplied repeatedly a certain
number of times. It is written in regular size.
8 is the exponent.
The exponent tells the number of times the base is to be
multiplied by itself. It is written smaller in the upper
right of the base.
When written in expanded form, 2 is equal to
2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2. The standard form of 2⁸ is 256.
40 = 1 A non-zero number raised to the zero power is
always 1.
51 = 5 A number raised to the first power is always
equal to itself.
62 = 36 Any number raised to the second power is
always multiplied itself.

B. Activity
Now I am going to group you into three and each group
will be given a task to perform.

GROUP 1
Direction. Study the table below. How many times is
number 2 being written?
Given Data Exponential Notation
1. 2
2. 2x2
3. 2x2x2
4. 2x2x2x2
5. 2x2x2x2x2
6. 2x2x2x2x2x2

GROUP 2
Directions. Give the product of the following
exponential form.
Exponential Notation Product
1. 22
2. 33
3. 23
4. 52
5. 43

GROUP 3
Directions. Give the expanded form and the product of
the following.
Exponential Expanded Product
Notation Form
1. 31
2. 32
3. 33
4. 34
5. 35

C. ABSTRACTION
1. What happens to 2 when multiplied by another 2?
2. What did you observe about the numbers from 2 up
to 64?
3. What happens when you double 2, 4 and so on? Does
it form a pattern? Do you know that any number can
also be expressed in exponential form? How are we
going to do this?
D. GENERALIZATION
What is exponential notation? Exponential Notation - is the shorthand way of
writing repeated multiplication and division. It is
necessary to keep track of extremely large and
small numbers.

Very Good!
What do you called a number that gets multiplied
repeatedly? The number that gets multiplied repeatedly ma’am
is called a base.

Very Good!
What do you called a number that that tell the base how
many times it multiplied? The number that tells the base how many time it
multiplied ma’am is called a exponent.

Very Good!
E. ASSESSMENT
Directions. Write in expanded form and find its
product.
1. 2⁶
2. 9⁴
3. 3⁸
4. 7⁵
F. ASSIGNMENT
DIRECTION. Complete the table by filling in the
correct value.
