Gender discrimination is a common civil rights
violation that involves sexual harassment,
pregnancy discrimination, and unequal pay
for women who work in the same roles as
men. The term "gender" refers to the
characteristics associated with being either
male or female. It is often used
interchangeably with the word "sex," but both
words have different meanings.
"Sex" refers to a person's anatomical identity
as male or female. In the United States, it is
unlawful for companies to treat employees
unfairly or subject them to blatant
discrimination based on their gender. The
term "gender identity" refers to a person's
self-identification as male or female, rather
than their anatomical sex at birth. For most
people, gender identity and anatomical sex
align, but for some, they do not.
Discrimination Against the
Girl Child
While children around the world continue to face various forms
of adversity in the 21 st century, girl children in particular are
subjected to multiple forms of oppression, exploitation, and
discrimination due to their gender. United Nations statistics,
national reports and studies initiated by non-governmental
organizations repeatedly show that girls, as a group, have lower
literacy rates, receive less health care, and are more often
impoverished than boys. It is also important to note these
conditions, more often than not, do not improve as girls grow to
become women.

The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) defines a

child as a person under the age of 18 unless national laws
recognize the age of majority earlier. The age of 18 is now
accepted as the world standard, since every country has
ratified the CRC except Somalia and the United States .
Although YAP International specifically advocates for ending
discrimination against girls, we realize efforts to curtail
gender discrimination must include strategies that continue
to support women when they reach and pass age 18.

something else.
The transgender communities are discriminated at all levels. They perform at
birth and naming ceremonies. And we also need to recognise that they are
considered to be equal to that of god in certain North Indian communities. Since
they are not qualified to be employed most often end up in taking up begging in
the streets and in the inter sections in the streets. While begging in the train they
face sexual abuse and verbal abuse. There were cases of them being gang-raped
and pushed from the trains.

Apart from begging, the entire community is forced into sex work. The one reason
for being forced into sex work is because unavailability of livelihood resources.
The job sector is not ready to employ them even if they are qualified, because of
the stigma attached with them. As a result of this they are pushed to lead their
life in poverty or end up taking refuge in beggary and sex work.

The other major area of concern is the constant denial of housing in housing
societies and other areas leading them to being housed in slums. There are lots
of implications to this. One of them is that being looked as criminals because of
the stigma attached to the slums being a place of criminals. The police treat
them as criminals and also at times arrest them for being involved in sex work.
The violence in police stations never gets reported.

Their political participation is nil. We can’t really expect them to have an active
political participation when 33% of reservation for the women is distant dream.
Now parties like Praja Rajya Vedike is giving political space for the transgenders
to participate.

For No Discrimination
Stop discriminating people just
because they are transgender or girls.

Respect their identity.

Let us not subject them to dehumanizing

treatment.
Let the families accept their individuality.

Everyone has the right to life and freedom of

expression.
Everyone has the right to participate in the
political engagement. Let us encourage
transgender and female in participating in
the political discourse.

Let us be more inclusive and let not exclude them. Everyone has
the right to education. let us work towards getting the
transgender and women too under the right to education Act
Gender discrimination in the workplace has
negatively impacted on the performance of
the companies and institutions both directly
and indirectly. This vice is also against the
human rights as human conscience is applied
more at work and not just the instinct.

While addressing this gender discrimination

one should have in mind that there is no
better sex hence the psychological view is
dealt with since the inside leads to the
outward which are the actions that either
promotes or reduce gender discrimination at
the work place. Companies and other
institutions should work towards eliminating
the vice since it largely works negatively to
the institutional wellbeing hence reducing
their profit margin.
