Sales in 2013 = ₹ 7 crores
Sales in 2015 = ₹ 10 crores
So, the difference between the sales
in 2013 and 2015 = ₹ (10 – 7) crores = ₹ 3 crores

8. In the above question 7, Find the average sales from 2012 to 2016.
(a) ₹ 6 crores (b) ₹ 7 crores (c) ₹ 8 crores (d) ₹ 9 crores
Ans. (b) ₹ 7 crores
Average sales = ₹ (4 + 7 + 6 + 10 + 8) / 5 = ₹ 35/5 = ₹ 7 crores

10. The following graph shows the relationship between the time and distance travelled by a car.

Using this graph, find:


(a) the distance covered during the period 7:30 am to 8 am.
(b) the time when the car had covered a distance of 60km since its start.
Ans. (a) The distance covered by the car when the time is 7:30 am = 100 km
The distance covered by the car when the time is 8 am = 120 km
The distance covered by the car during the period 7:30 am to 8 am
= 120 km – 100 km = 20 km
(b) The time when the car had covered a distance of 60km since its start was 6:30 am.

11. Observe the following graph and answer the questions that follow.

(a) What is the difference between the maximum and minimum amounts of sales?
(b) How many instruments have been sold in the last 5 months?

12. The given graph shows the distance travelled and the time taken by a train to reach city B from
city A. Study the time graph and answer the following questions.

(a) At what time did the train leave city A?


(b) When did the train cover a distance of 200 km?

13. The graph below shows the maximum temperatures recorded for two consecutive weeks of a
town. Study the graph and answer the questions that follow.

(b) On which day was the difference in temperatures the maximum for both the weeks?

Questions 14 to 16 carry 3 marks each.

14. Draw a graph for the following data.

Ans. (i) Draw the coordinate axes and take a suitable scale on both the axes.
We choose a scale on Horizontal axis: 1 unit = 1 apple
Vertical axis: 1 unit = ₹ 5
(ii) Mark the number of apples along horizontal axis (x-axis).
(iii) Mark cost of the apples along vertical axis (y-axis).
(iv) Plot the points: (1, 5), (2, 10), (3, 15), (4, 20), (5, 25), (6, 30).
(v) Join the points and we get the graph

15. Draw a graph for the following data.

Perimeter of the square (in cm) 8 12 16 20 24
Ans. (i) Draw the coordinate axes and take a suitable scale on both the axes. We choose a scale
on:
Horizontal axis: 1 unit = 1 cm
Vertical axis: 1 unit = 4 cm
(ii) Mark side of the square on the horizontal axis.
(iii) Mark perimeter of the square on the vertical axis.
Plot the points: (2, 8), (3, 12), (4, 16), (5, 20), (6, 24). Join the points and we get the graph

16. Plot the points (2, 3) and (3, 2). Draw a line passing through these points. Find the coordinates
of the points at which this line meets the x-axis and y-axis.

The line passing through the points (2, 3) and (3, 2) meet the x-axis at the point (5, 0) and the y-
axis at (0, 5).

SECTION – D
Questions 17 to 18 carry 5 marks each.

17. A bank gives 10% Simple Interest (S.I.) on deposits by senior citizens. Draw a graph to
illustrate the relation between the sum deposited and simple interest earned. Find from your
graph
(a) the annual interest obtainable for an investment of ₹ 250.
(b) the investment one has to make to get an annual simple interest of ₹ 70.
Ans. We get a table of values.

(i) Scale : 1 unit = ₹ 100 on horizontal axis; 1 unit = ₹ 10 on vertical axis.


(ii) Mark Deposits along horizontal axis.
(iii) Mark Simple Interest along vertical axis.
(iv) Plot the points : (100,10), (200, 20), (300, 30), (500,50) etc.
(v) Join the points. We get a graph that is a line (Fig 13.6).
(a) Corresponding to ₹ 250 on horizontal axis, we get the interest to be ₹ 25 on vertical axis.
(b) Corresponding to ₹ 70 on the vertical axis, we get the sum to be ₹ 700 on the horizontal
axis.

18. Ajit can ride a scooter constantly at a speed of 30 kms/hour. Draw a time-distance graph for
this situation. Use it to find
(i) the time taken by Ajit to ride 75 km. (ii) the distance covered by Ajit in 3½ hours.
Ans. We get a table of values.

(i) Scale: Horizontal: 2 units = 1 hour and Vertical: 1 unit = 10 km


(ii) Mark time on horizontal axis.
(iii) Mark distance on vertical axis.
(iv) Plot the points: (1, 30), (2, 60), (3, 90), (4, 120).
(v) Join the points. We get a linear graph.
(a) Corresponding to 75 km on the vertical axis, we get the time to be 2.5 hours on the
horizontal axis. Thus 2.5 hours are needed to cover 75 km.
(b) Corresponding to 3½ hours on the horizontal axis, the distance covered is 105 km on the
vertical axis.

SECTION – E (Case Study Based Questions)
Questions 19 carry 4 mark each.

19. The given graph shows the Speed-Time graph for car A and car B. Read the graph and answer
the following questions.

(a) What is the difference in the initial speeds of car A and car B?
(b) At what time is the speed of car A the maximum?
(c) What is the difference in the speed of car B at 7 am and 9 am?
(d) For how long does car B move at constant speed?
