DESIGN FOR STAIRCASE

The document outlines the design calculations for a staircase, including dimensions for rise, tread, and the number of steps per flight. It details the design loads, moments, and required steel reinforcement based on structural analysis. Additionally, it includes checks for deflection and development length for the reinforcement used in the staircase design.

DESIGN OF STAIRCASE

Assumed Rise= 160mm

Tread= 220mm

No of rises= H/R = 3200/160 = 20

No of rises per flight = 20/2 = 10

No of steps per flight =10-1 = 9

Going = 9T = 9×220 =1980mm

Effective span L = 3230 mm

Width of landing = 3230-300-1980 = 950mm

For one way simply supported inclined slab

L/d = 20, d = 3230/20 = 161.5mm

Say d = 160mm , D = 24mm , d’=24mm

Design load:

Self weight of slab = 25D sec Φ = 25x0.185x√2202 +1602 /220 = 5.69 KN/m2

Weight of steps = 25 x R/2 = 25 x 0.160/2 = 2.00 KN/m3

Live load = 3 KN/m2

Floor finishes = 1 KN/m2

Working load per meter span = 11.69 KN/m

Design load wu = 1.5 x 11.69 = 17.54 KN/m

Design moment:

For simply supported Mu = wu𝑙 2 /8 =17.54 x 3.232 /8 = 22.9 KNm

Check for depth:

Mu lim = 0.36x20x1100x0.48x160[160-0.42x0.48x160] = 77.7 KN/m > Mu

Main steel:

22.9 x 1010 =0.87x415xAST[160-0.42x0.48x160] = 496.51𝑚𝑚 2

Required spacing s = 50.27/496.51x1000 = 101.25mm

Maximum spacing ∫ 𝑚𝑎𝑥 = 300mm

Provide # 8mm @ 100mm c/c

[AST (per m) = 502.7𝑚𝑚 2 ]

Check for deflection :

Required % of steel = 496.51x100/1100x160 = 0.286%

Provided % of steel 502.7x100/1100x160= 0.28%

fs = 0.58 x415x496.51/507.7 = 237.7 N/𝑚𝑚 2

from IS 456 , 2000 code from class 23.2

𝛼1 = 1.51

Required depth d = 3230/20x1.51 = 106.9mm<160mm

Hence safe

Distribution of steel :

Au = 0.12/100 x 1100 x 184 = 242.88mm

Spacing = 207mm

Provide # 8mm @ 200mm c/c

Development length:

Ld = 0.87fyΦ/A 𝜏vd = 0.87x415x8/4x1.2x1.6 = 376mm
