Detailed Lesson Plan 3 (3)

This detailed lesson plan for TLE 9 – SMAW outlines objectives for students to differentiate welding types, identify welding joints, and perform groove weld preparation. The lesson includes a review of previous topics, an introduction to five basic welding joints, and concludes with a quiz and homework assignments. The plan is prepared by a student teacher and checked by a cooperative teacher and head teacher.

● Preparatory

Teacher’s activity Students’ activity

“Good morning <section name>” “Good morning, Sir Peter Good morning
classmate!”

“So how is your day?”

“It was great sir ”

“Before we start, Let’s start our session with a

prayer, anyone can lead?” “Me sir ! (He/she leads the prayer)

“Thank you! Before you take your seats, kindly pick

up the pieces of paper, small trash under your
chair.”

“If I call your name, please raise your hand and say
present” “Yes sir .”

● Review

Teacher’s activity Students’ activity

"Since I am new as your student teacher, could “(Some students raise their hands)”
you please review Ma’am from the previous
topics?
“It is about the how to set up welding machine sir”
“Okay you Daniela.” (The student has a nametag)

“Correct! thankyou, A wonderful topic, right?”

Today, we will discuss the basic welding joint.

When we say basic welding joint, it refers to two “(Some students raise their hands)”
metals joined together with a firm connection.
Now we have 5 basic joints, can you give one?
“lap joint sir”

“very good!!”

● Lesson Process

Teacher’s activity Students’ activity

As I mentioned earlier, we have 5 basic welding

joints.

1st is butt joint

When we say butt joint

It is joint where two pieces of metal are placed

together in the same plane, and the side of each
metal is joined by welding

2nd is corner joint

When we say corner joint it is a joint in welding

where two pieces of material are joined at a right
angle.

“The students are listening.”

3rd lap joint is a welding joint that's created by

overlapping two pieces of metal to form a 0–5°
angle. It's a variation of the butt joint, and is often
used to join materials of different thicknesses

4th tee joint

When we say tee joint it is created when the edges

of your two workpieces meet at approximately 90
degrees and take the shape of a T. You'll weld the
edge of one workpiece to the flat surface of
another. T-joints possess good mechanical
strength, especially when welded from both sides

And last is edge joint

When we say edge joint it is the metal surfaces

are placed together so that the edges are even.
One or both plates may be formed by bending
them at an angle. The purpose of a weld joint is to
join parts together so that the stresses are
distributed.

“Do you understand?”

What are the 5 basic welding joints again?

“Very good!!”

So lets proceed
“yes sir “

Groove weld
“student raised their hands”
When we say groove weld it is one of the types of
weld joint (other

types such as Fillet weld, Lap weld, Corner weld,

etc.)
“butt joint, corner joint, tee joint, lap joint, edge
where the weld is deposited in the groove joint”
obtained by

two butting plates or pipe members. Groove weld

or butt

weld can be the same when butting members have

grooves made on them.

“student are listening”

Do you understand?

Next is fillet weld

When we say fillet weld it is is approximately

triangular in cross section. It joints two surfaces
that are approximately right angles to each other.
Fillet weld is used to weld lap, tee, and corner
joints.

“yes sir”

“We are done with our lesson class, any one here
have a questions?

“So we have a quiz, please get your activity note

and answers only”

Evaluation
Direction: Choose the letter of the correct answer
1.) It is approximately triangular in cross section.
a. fillet weld
b. groove weld
c. surface weld
d. spot weld
2.) It is one of the types of weld joint
where the weld is deposited in the groove
obtained by two butting plates or pipe
members.

a. groove weld b. fillet weld

c. surface weld d. spot weld
3.) When the two materials are in the
same plane, joined from the edges is
called
a. butt joint b. lap joint
c. edge joint d. corner joint
4.) When the two materials are in the
same plane, joined from the edges is
called
a. butt joint b. lap joint
c. edge joint d. corner joint
5.) When these two plates form a right
angle and joined is known to be a___
a. corner joint b. edge joint
c. tee joint d. lap joint
IV. Homework
