Byhand - Editing of cutting plans

Brief description
With Byhand a LCC file (cutting plan) can be edited: Existing plans can be modified and new
plans created.
Byhand is designed for use on the Panel PC and is a completion of the existing Bysoft
CAD/CAM system, however without a link to any database. There are also neither construction
functions nor automatisms. Design and user guidance correspond to the current Bysoft
application

Note:
With Byhand, you cannot modify cutting plans with tube and
repositioning programming as well as twin-head programs of
waterjet systems.

Hints for programming

Command window
The command window is the most important communication platform between you and the PC.
The PC tells you which input it expects you to enter for the chosen command. The command
window is located at the bottom of the screen. With the scroll buttons, you can scroll through
the last 50 lines.

Fig. Command window

The handling of the command window depends on the message displayed:

System expecting a co-ordinate
Message: Insert point:
If there is only one term in the lowest line of the command window (e.g. Starting point),
the PC is waiting for an insertion in the form of a co-ordinate. Insert an X and Y co-ordinate
and separate the two values with a comma (do not use the decimal point of the number block.
It is only needed for entering decimal values). Confirm your entry with ENTER. If the message
"Requires point" appears, you have either forgotten to enter a second value or have not
separated the X and Y co-ordinates properly.
Example: 50.1,14.85
It is also possible to define a point using the mouse and left-clicking in the graphic window.

System expecting a value (number)

Message: Column spacing: <225>

Edition: 05.2004 Seite 7

Customer Center
Bystronic Laser AG

The PC expects you to enter a number. This time, not a co-ordinate but a value is required.
You can either use the suggested value in brackets or type another value. Confirm with
ENTER.

System expecting a selection I

Message: Reference/<Rotating angle>:
If there are two or more terms in the command window, normally one of them is in brackets.
This means that for this suggestion, the value can directly be typed and confirmed with
ENTER. If you would like to choose the other command, the capital letter(s) within this word
have to be typed (not necessarily the first letter). Confirm your insertion with ENTER.

System expecting a selection II

Message: Automatic or Manual? (A/M) <A>
This is a procedure which can either be executed automatically or manually. The letter A is in
brackets and will thus go as the default value. You can press A on the keyboard or only press
ENTER. If you press M and afterwards ENTER, you can modify the process manually.

System expecting a selection III

Message: Choose objects:
The PC expects you to click on one or several objects by using the mouse with the small red
object selection box. Move the cursor onto a line and click upon it with the left mouse button.
The geometry object will appear in dashed white lines. You can then choose other geometry
objects in the same way. The object selection functions give you further possibilities for
selection. After having chosen all objects, you have to confirm your selection with ENTER or
with the right mouse button.

No input expected, just notification

Message: none
There is no message, the command is executed in the background of the programme. Hints for
this are for example a dialogue window which pops up or changes on the screen. Moreover,
you will see in blue letters the command which is behind every button.

Cursor
With the mouse you move the cursor over the screen. Depending on the actual position of the
mouse and on the command which has been chosen, the cursor will appear in different shape,
either as a white arrow, as a red box or as red cross hairs.
White arrow
The cursor is on the menu bars or on the command window.

Red crosshairs
The cursor is on the drawing window, no special functions are active

Red crosshairs with object trap box

The cursor is on the drawing window and has been activated by an object snap
function (see online help > object snaps). The size of the box can be modified in
Settings > Options > General.

Red box (object selection box)

The cursor is situated in the drawing window and is ready for an object selection
(see online help > object selection). The size of the box can be changed in
Settings > Options > General

Mouse buttons
The left mouse button is for clicking on buttons, choosing geometry elements, for setting
points in the drawing window, etc.
The right mouse button has the same function as the key ENTER, assuming that you press on
the right mouse button while the cursor is in the drawing window. This means that the right
mouse button enables you to finish a command.
When the right mouse button is being pressed while the term "Command" is in the command
window, the last selected command is called again. This is useful when the same command
needs to be executed several times in a row.

Escape key <Esc>

The escape key enables you to interrupt a command. Pressing the right mouse button directly
after the Escape button reactivates the former command (see mouse buttons).

Home key
The contents of the drawing window can be moved by pressing the home key and moving the
mouse at the same time.

Zoom functions
Choose the zoom functions in order to move, enlarge or minimise extracts from your
drawing. These functions are transparent functions, which means that you can also use them
in combination with any other function, for example while drawing a line, making a fillet, etc.
The following functions are at your disposal:

When the function Snap is active, Snap is being displayed in the status line below.
The following functions are available:

End point Basic element Intersection

Middle point Nearest

Centre Quadrant

Perpendicular Tangent

End point of contour Centre of gravity

Click on one of these buttons after having chosen a drawing element. If you need for instance
the intersection point of two lines as the starting point for another line, first click on the button
for line and immediately afterwards onto the button Pick intersection point. The cursor will
then be displayed as cross hairs with a box. Move the box over the intersection of the two lines
and press the left mouse button. The function Snap will then again be deactivated.
See online help for a more detailed description of the individual buttons.

Object selection functions

The object selection functions help you choosing objects as soon as the command Select
objects appears in the command window. The choice can either contain a single or several
drawing elements or contours. These functions are transparent functions, which means that
they can also be used together with other functions, for example when drawing a line, making
a fillet, etc.
The request Select objects: automatically activates the Object selection box. If you have
to draw a window, the normal crosshairs appear, requiring the two corners of the window.
Chosen objects are displayed with white dashed lines. The colour of the chosen objects stays
the same.

Preparing a cutting plan

Change format

You can machine a cutting plan with another raw material than defined in the LCC-file.
In order to modify the sheet dimensions of the existing plan, click on File > Plan settings and
assign the new dimensions. Do not forget edge distances, either.

Note:
The sheet format must not be smaller than the format of the
plan. Otherwise the sheet must be deleted and nested again (see
further down)

Create formats

You can create a selection of frequently used sheet formats beforehand. This helps to avoid
entering new sheet formats by hand over and over again.
Open the tab Panel management via the pulldown-menu Settings > options. You see the
dialog below. In the section Panel data, enter your data, then click on the Add button to save
the format. With Modify, you can change your settings, with Delete, you delete the present
panel format.

Fill in the fields Description, Length, Width

Modify number of parts

If you want to cut more than the number of parts nested on the sheet, click on the
corresponding part in the parts window. The parts window changes its frame colour from grey
to yellow: The part has been selected. You can now insert the part on any free space on the
sheet with your mouse by left-clicking.
If you need to assign a correct insertion position for the part, you can enter the plan co-
ordinates (e.g. 10.5,50.65) in the command window. It is also possible to rotate the part using
the arrow keys.
You see the exact number of the individual parts used on the cutting plan in the corresponding

Insert new parts (create new subprograms)

If you want to place a part on the present plan which has not yet been placed on this plan, the
procedure is different.

There are two ways of loading these parts:

a) Import these parts from another plan
b) Import the parts as *.din (of older Bysoft versions)

a) If these parts are nested on another cutting plan, this plan must be loaded via File >
Import parts.
The parts will be listed below the existing parts list with a number of 0. Inserting the part
works like described above.

b) When importing *.din parts that have been exported as *.din in Bysoft6 or programmed
with an old DOS-version of Bysoft, the file type in the dialog window must be changed
from *.lcc to *.din.

Abb. DIN-parts import

With this function you can gain access to one specific part. It is inserted in the plan as
described above.

Delete a single subprogram

To delete a single subprogram (all identical parts) from a plan, activate the parts in the parts
list by left-clicking on it. Then, select Plan > Delete subprogram. The part is removed from
the parts list and from the plan.

Note:
Modified data will not be accounted for in the Bysoft-database.
It may be useful to rearrange the nesting after deleting
subprograms.

Modifying cutting plans

Rearranging plans

If you rearrange a plan, you can select several initial positions, too.
a) You want to rearrange an existing plan
b) You want to create an entirely new plan in Byhand

a) If you want to rearrange an already nested plan, then load this plan and delete all parts
(Attention: Do not delete the sub programs). Select the command Plan > Delete and
Aid > Object Selection > All or use the buttons. The parts will remain in the parts list,
however with the amount of 0. Now you can place the parts as described above.

on the Range button or select the command from the pulldown-menu Plan. Either select a
new part and place it in the plan or click on an already placed part and confirm with Enter or
the right mouse button. Now you are asked to enter a first corner either by left-clicking or by
typing coordinates, then, in the same way, to enter a second, different corner which will define
the range. Next thing is column and line spacing with calculated values, each. Accept these by
right-clicking or with Enter. With this command it is possible to easily fill a plan with a part.

Button Range

Undo
Clicking on this button or selecting the command from the pulldown-menu Plan will undo the
last command on the plan.

Byview

Brief description

Byview is the simulation program for exported LCC files and DIN parts. The cutting sequence
within a part or a plan can be checked visually.

Operating mode

Start program

Start Byview via Start > Program Files > Bysoft 6 Toolbox > Byview or by double-
