INTRODUCTION TO STRESS MANAGEMENT

MEANING:

Stress is a feeling of emotional or physical tension. It can come from any event or thought
that makes you feel frustrated, angry, or nervous. Stress is your body's reaction to a
challenge or demand.

DEFINITION:

According to Hans Selye. J

Stress is the body nonspecific response to a demand placed on it.

According to Richard S. Lazarus

Stress as a condition or feeling experienced when a person perceives that demand
exceed the personal and social resources the individual is able to mobilize.

TYPES OF STRESS

 Episodic Acute Stress
 Chronic stress

 Acute stress

Acute stress results from your body ‘s reaction to a new or challenging situation.
It’s that feeling you get from an approaching deadline or when you narrowly avoid
being hit by a car. We can even experience it as a result of something we enjoy.

 Episodic acute stress

Episodic acute stress is when acute stresses happen on a frequent basis. This can
be because of repeatedly tight work deadlines. It can also be because of the frequent
high-stress situations experienced by some professionals, such as healthcare workers.

Chronic stress is the result of stressors that continue for a long period of time.
Examples include living in a high-crime neighborhood or constantly fighting with your
life partner.

CONCLUSION

Stress management is an important aspect of workplace wellness, as it can help to

ensure that employees are able to remain productive and healthy throughout their
employment. The finding of the study suggests that the most effective way to encourage
open communication between employees and their bosses is for the company to provide
a safe environment for communication. This included initiatives such as providing clear
communication skill, offering training on communication skill, and recognition for
effective communication. Additionally, the companies could create a culture of respect
and trust between employees and their bosses to further encourage open
communication.
