proving theorems on a circle

This lesson plan for Mathematics 10 focuses on understanding circles and coordinate geometry, specifically using the distance formula to prove geometric properties. The plan includes introductory activities, lesson development, and applications, culminating in an evaluation task. The objective is to enable learners to formulate and solve problems involving circles through accurate representations.

LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 10

SUBJECT: Mathematics
GRADE LEVEL: 10 Einstein; 10 Newton; 10 Galileo
DATE: September 30, 2019

I. Objective:

CONTENT The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of circles

STANDARD: and coordinate geometry.

PERFORMANCE The learner is able to formulate and find solutions to challenging

STANDARD: situations involving circles and other related terms in disciplines
through appropriate and accurate representations.

LEARNING The learner applies the distance formula to prove some geometric
COMPETENCY: properties. (M10GE-IIg-2)

II. Subject Matter:

TOPIC: Distance Formula: Proving Theorems

REFERENCE: Mathematics Learner’s Module Page 239-240

Curriculum Guide Page 212

MATERIALS: Textbook, Manila Paper

III. Procedure
a. Introductory Activities

i. Drill : Solve the following fractions.

1. 1.75 x 1.2 =
2. 1.32 x 2.3 =
3. 2.55 x 1.5 =
4. 4.5 x 1.72 =
5. 6.54 x 1.8 =
ii. Motivation: Using the Cartesian plane, plot the following
coordinates and name the following to their given
letters:
A (3,2)
B (3,8)
C (6,2)
D (6,8)

Determine to what shape would the dots form.

iii. Presentation of Read the objective of the lesson
the Lesson:

b. Development of the Lesson

i. Activity: 1. Using the figure you’ve formed using the points

given earlier, connect the dots that would create a
diagonal on the shape.
2. Prove that the two diagonals were congruent using
the distance formula.
ii. Analysis: 1. Did you get the diagonal of the shape? Which
points did you connect?
2. How did you apply the formula for distance to see
if the two lines are congruent?
3. Are they congruent?
iii. Abstraction Use distance formula to prove some geometric concepts.

Valuing: Which real life situation can you use distance

formula to prove its existence?

Generalization: How can distance formula be applied to

answer or prove some geometric concepts? In what cases?

iv. Application: Prove that the diagonals of a rectangle are congruent using
the methods of coordinate geometry. (see illustration to
page 239).

v. Evaluation: Answer activity7 of page 242.

vi. Agreement: Search for the center-radius form of the equation of a circle.
