to;
a. Identify the different units of
measurements for volume and capacity.
b. Write down the appropriate units of
measurement used to measure volume
and capacity.
c. Appreciate the importance of estimation
and measurement of volume and
capacity in daily life.

IV. PROCEDURES
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY ATUDENT’S ACTIVITY
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer Let us all stand for our prayer. Ms. Praying…
President please lead the prayer.

2. Greetings Good afternoon class. Good afternoon, ma’am Mae.

For our class to be smooth I have
here some rules for you to follow.
1. Listen
2. Participate
3. Takedown notes
4. Raise your right hand if you
have a question/answer.
Understood?
Yes, ma’am.
B. Reviewing the Who among you here can recall what (Students are raising their

Yes Siapoc. Our last topic is all about

measures of length.

When do we use the unit of length?

Yes Ermita? We use the unit of length
when measuring the length,
width, and thickness of
objects and also in getting the
distance.

questions about the measures of None ma’am.
length?
C. Establishing a purpose Class I have here some plastic cups
for the lesson and a two 2-liter gallon (2-liter coke
gallon one is empty and the other one
is full.)

Very good! What else? The two-gallon ma’am, one

is empty and the other one is
Very good! full ma’am.

These objects are related to our lesson

for today.

Do you have any idea? No ma’am.

Our lesson for today is all about

measures of volume and capacity.

So, at the end of the lesson, you will

be able to;
Identify the different units of
measurements for volume and
capacity.
Write down the appropriate units of
measurement used to measure
volume and capacity.
Appreciate the importance of
estimation and measurement of
volume and capacity in daily life.
D. Presenting examples What will happen if I am going to
/instances of the new pour the water into the empty plastic
lesson cups? (Students are raising their
hands)
Yes Sanchez? The cups will be filled with
water ma’am.
How about the gallon? What
happened to it?

How about you Ermita? What is your The gallon is empty ma’am.
observation? All the water is transferred to
the plastic cups.
Very good!

Let’s assume that the water inside

plastic cups is the unit of the gallon.
As you can see, the gallon is
composed of how many plastic cups.

The gallon represents the volume,

and the water represents the capacity.

Are you ready to learn what is Yes, ma’am we are ready.

volume and capacity?
E. Discussing new Our lesson for today is all about
concepts and Measures of Volume and Capacity
practicing new skills
#1 Does anyone of you here has an idea Volume is the amount of
what is volume and capacity? space occupied by an object.
While the capacity is the
amount of substance a
container can hold.

Very good!

Volume is the amount of space

occupied by an object.
The common metric units of volume
are cubic centimeters (cm^3) and
cubic meter (m^3). These units are
obtained as the product of the
objects’ length, width and height
(length x width x height).

Capacity is the amount of substance

a container can hold.

Here are some objects that illustrate

the units of volume and capacity in
the Metric System.
A standard Rubik’s Cube measures
5.7 on each side.
If the Rubik’s cube measures 5.7 on
each side. What is its total volume?

Length x width x height = cm^3

5.7 x 5.7 x 5.7 = 185.193 cm^3

So, the total volume of the Rubik’s

cube is 185.193 cm3

Did you get me? Yes ma’am.

A bottle of 120 mL medicine syrup.

One liter of soft drink.

The things mentioned above are
objects that use the units of
measurement for volume and
capacity. Just like the example, when
we buy something in the market or
the store, we usually say one liter of
soft drink or one bottle of 120 mL
Paracetamol syrup. We don’t know
that those are already units for
measuring the volume or the capacity
of a certain object.

Think of other objects that we usually

buy in the store.
For example, you want to buy a
bucket. What could be the size of the The small bucket can only
bucket that you will buy? A small hold small amount of water
bucket or a big bucket? Do you think while the big bucket can hold
the size of the bucket can affect its big amount of water.
capacity to hold water? Why?
Very good! Do you understand now
what is volume and capacity? Yes ma’am.
F. Discussing new Now let’s proceed to the basic Metric
concepts and unit for measuring capacity.
practicing new skills
#2 Liter (L) is the basic Metric Unit for
measuring capacity.

Common Metric Unit for Capacity

Unit Relation to
Liter
Kiloliter (kL) 1000 L
Hectoliter (hL) 100 L
Dekaliter (daL) 10 L
Liter (L) 1L
Deciliter (dL) 0.1 L
Centiliter cL 0.01 L
Milliliter mL 0.001 L

If the liquid is equal or more than

1000L it is more likely to call
kiloliter. For example; The Fire
Truck can carry 2 kiloliters of water.

Hectoliter is the major unit of volume

used in the brewing industry
worldwide. For example; In this
establishment about 20 hectoliters of
wine can be produced annually.

If the liquid is at exact 10 liter or

more it is called Dekaliter.

Who can give me an example of liter? Softdrinks ma’am.

Gasoline.
Deciliter is a handy measure for Milk and etc.
everyday liquids. Think of a small
carton of yogurt or a double shot of
expresso.

Centiliter is also a handy measure for

everyday liquids the best example of
it is a small bottle of perfume.

Milliliter is a very small amount of

liquid. For example, a milk in a
teaspoon. It only fills the bottom of
the teaspoon.

Examples:
a) An average household pail
can hold up to 10 liters of
water.
b) One glass of drinking water is
about 240 mL.
c) The size of a surgical
facemask box is 13 cm x 9 cm
x 13 cm or 1, 521 cm^3.
Yes, ma’am.
Do you understand class? No ma’am.
Do you have any questions regarding
to our lesson?
G. Developing mastery Group Activity
At this point, I will group you into 4.
In a ½ sheet of paper list at least 5
volume and at least 5 capacity that
you see in your house. You must
write what is the indicated unit of the
things that you have listed.
For example. 1 liter of cooking oil
and a 45cm^3 Tupperware.

Understood? Yes, ma’am.

All members must participate. Write

the list of the members at the back of
the paper. Are we clear?

I will only give you 10 minutes to

finish the activity. Timer starts now.

Times up! pass your paper.

H. Finding practical “Measurement rules our lives. It has

J. Evaluating learning In a one whole sheet of paper answer
the following;

Direction: Choose whether mL, L,

cm3 or m3 should be used in finding
the appropriate unit of
volume/capacity.

1. A water tank can hold up to L

650 ___L__.
2. One sachet of shampoo Ml
contains 12 _____.
3. Joana buys a bottle of 500 Ml
_____ vinegar.
4. The standard size of a M^3
swimming pool is 2, 000
_____.
5. A flash drive measures 10 Cm^3
