10 Lubricants and fluids
Lubricants and fluids
G ATTENTION
Lubricants are harmful to health, as they contain toxic and caustic components and are highly
flammable.
For this reason, please observe the following instructions to prevent potential injuries to yourself
and others:
• Do not inhale vapors. Indoors, make sure that there is always enough ventilation to avoid
poisoning;
• Lubricants should not come into contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. In case of contact, clean
the affected skin areas with water and soap to prevent burns and other injuries;
• In the case of contact with the eyes, wash them thoroughly using a lot of clean water;
• Change out of clothing contaminated with lubricants immediately to reduce the risk of fire and
potential injuries;
• Do not approach open flames, have unprotected lit bulbs, or smoke while handling lubricants.
• Always observe the hazard indications regarding toxicity, burn hazards, and fire hazards as
indicated on the lubricant packaging.
Before performing maintenance work, always consult the technical documentation, such as the
G ATTENTION Operator's and Maintenance Manuals. Send the vehicle to a Mercedes-Benz Dealer or Qualified
Workshop to carry out the maintenance services within the prescribed intervals. Performing
maintenance work reduces fault occurrence of malfunctions that can result in accidents.
Lubricants and fluids 11
Recommended lubricants
G
Lubricants must be suitable for the vehicle's components; therefore, only use products
tested and approved by Mercedes-Benz.
Lubricants recommended by Mercedes-Benz are listed on the website:
www.mercedes-benz-trucks.com.br, classified according to their applications and
properties.
If it is necessary to add oil to the major assembly to restore the correct level, use
lubricant of the same class as the product contained in the major assembly.
Do not mix lubricants of different classes, as their properties would be negatively
affected, which could damage the components of the assemblies or significantly
reduce their durability. Damage resulting from mixing lubricants of different classes is
not covered by the vehicle warranty.
Strictly follow the lubricants specified for each type of major assembly, as incorrect
application can damage major assembly components, and such damage is not covered
by the vehicle warranty.
The recommended lubricants do not require special additives. These additives can
negatively alter the properties of the recommended products and cause damage to
major assemblies.
If you have any doubts regarding the correct application of lubricants, consult your
Mercedes-Benz Dealer or Authorized Service Center.
i (*) For reference to the recommended lubricants lists, please check the website:
operatingfluids.mercedes-benz.com

G ATTENTION Operator's and Maintenance Manuals. Send the vehicle to a Mercedes-Benz Dealer or Qualified
Workshop to carry out the maintenance services within the prescribed intervals. Performing
maintenance work reduces fault occurrence of malfunctions that can result in accidents.
12 Lubricants and fluids
Coolant
Fill the cooling system with the recommended coolant suitable for the vehicle's operating
climate. If you have any doubts, refer to a Mercedes-Benz Dealer or Qualified Workshop
for the most suitable coolant for your vehicle.
G
Never add plain water to the cooling system. Fill the cooling system only with the
recommended and pre-prepared coolant.
i Consider using water according to class MB 310.1. In the case of questions, refers to a
Mercedes-Benz Dealer or Qualified Workshop.
Lubricants and fluids 13
Chassis lubrication
Lubricate chassis components with pressure lubrication points every 5,000 km,
regardless of regular maintenance service intervals.
In areas with heavy rain or dusty conditions, lubricate chassis components more
frequently.
Chassis components must also be lubricated whenever washing underneath the vehicle or
transit in flooding areas.
G
Regularly check for axle leaks.
14 Vehicle Maintenance Considerations
Vehicle Maintenance Considerations
Vehicle maintenance
To ensure your vehicle's safe operation, perform the recommended maintenance services
at the specified intervals according to the vehicle's maintenance category.
Always entrust the recommended maintenance services to a Mercedes-Benz Dealer or
Authorized Service Center.
The repair services are not included in the services listed in the maintenance plan, and,
when necessary, the repairs must be carried out using a separate service order.
Maintenance service intervals are organized in tables based on the vehicle model and
maintenance category.
Drive Axle Oil Change
Drive axle oil change should occur within the timeframes indicated in the respective
maintenance and oil change interval tables or at least every year, whichever comes first.
The damages resulting from not changing the oil or from exceeding the indicated periods
will not be covered by the vehicle warranty.
In certain instances, the oil change intervals for the major assemblies (drive axles) may
not align with the regular maintenance service intervals.
If the scheduled oil change is earlier than the maintenance service interval M, perform the
oil change within the specified interval to maximize major assembly durability.
When the scheduled oil change date is later than the scheduled maintenance service
intervals M, it is up to the customer to decide whether to respect the specified interval to
maximize the use of the lubricant or to anticipate the oil change by performing the service
along with the maintenance services to avoid additional vehicle downtime.
Note:
In some cases, there is the option to adjust the major assembly oil change interval
based on the type of lubricant used.
Only use recommended lubricants according to the major assembly type.
Refer to the approved lubricants on the website:
operatingfluids.mercedes-benz.com
Before performing maintenance work, always consult the technical documentation, such as the
G ATTENTION Operator's and Maintenance Manuals. Send the vehicle to a Mercedes-Benz Dealer or Qualified
Workshop to carry out the maintenance services within the prescribed intervals. Performing

Vehicle Maintenance Considerations 15
Before performing maintenance work, always consult the technical documentation, such as the
G ATTENTION Operator's and Maintenance Manuals. Send the vehicle to a Mercedes-Benz Dealer or Qualified
Workshop to carry out the maintenance services within the prescribed intervals. Performing
maintenance work reduces fault occurrence of malfunctions that can result in accidents.
16 Vehicle Maintenance Considerations
Wheels' hubs
Lubricating grease in the rear axle wheel hubs must be changed strictly as indicated in the
maintenance interval tables or every 6 years, whichever comes first.
G Attention
Missing the wheel hubs maintenance can cause premature wear of the bearings, distinguished by
their noisy operation, and even the unexpected bearings blocking with risk of wheel detaching
that can result in accidents of unpredictable consequences.
Note that on determined exceptional operating conditions, the wheel hubs' lubricating grease
change intervals must be reduced for vehicles used every day but with a too low average
kilometer reading.
Tire Rotation
Tire rotation is a recommended procedure to ensure even tread wear.
Tire rotation should be performed at least every 10,000 km. However, as tires wear is
influenced by several variable factors according to the operating conditions, this interval
can be re-assessed by the Customer with a tire manufacturer designee and adapted to the
vehicle using conditions.
Nut and Screw Tightening
G ATTENTION
The tightening check and, if necessary, the tightening of the mounting nuts and screws of some
chassis components is essential to compensate for the parts' seating and to preserve the vehicle's
circulation safety. Tightening checks and any necessary retightening of nuts and screws should be
performed at the intervals indicated in the vehicle maintenance schedule. Additionally, wheel
fastening nuts and U-bolt clamps for leaf springs (vehicles with steel suspension) require
additional checks and retightening at the intervals indicated below.
Not carrying out this service of checking and re-tightening the mounting nuts and screws at the
recommended intervals can result in the chassis' component detaching and cause an accident
with severe or death injuries.
Daily inspection 17
Daily inspection
The daily inspection consists of checks in charge of the driver that must be carried out
before starting the daily operation of the vehicle to guarantee its functioning safety and
circulation.
The vehicle maintenance schedule does not include daily vehicle inspection services.
Before starting the engine:
• Check the general condition and the inflation of the tires;
• Check for general leaks (water and oil);

and wiper blades;
• Check the filling of the windshield washer reservoir;
• Check the operation of the doors' latches and locks;
• Clean the headlamps and lamps;
• Check the tightening of the wheels' mounting screws;
• Inflate the tires, including the spare wheel.
After Washing the Underside of the Vehicle or Driving Through Flooded Areas:
• To check if there's any water inside the electric motor housing, unscrew the inspection
screw at the housing lower part.
