FIVE-MARKS QUESTIONS
Q 1. In a rectangle, if the length is increased by 3 meters and breadth is decreased by 4 metres, the area of the
rectangle is reduced by 67 square metres. If length is reduced by 1 metre and breadth is increased by 4 metres,
the area is increased by 89 sq. metres. Find the dimensions of the rectangle .
Q 2. A train covered a certain distances at a uniform speed. If the train would have been 6 km/h faster, it would
have taken 4 hours less than the scheduled time. And, if the train were slower by 6 km/h, it would have taken
6 hours more than the scheduled time. Find the length of the journey .
Q 3. A boat goes 24 km upstream and 28 km downstream in 6 hrs. It goes 30 km upstream and 21 km downstream
in 61/2 hrs. Find the speed of the boat in still water and also speed of the stream.
Q 4. A man travels 370 km partly by train and partly by car. If he covers 250 km by train and the rest by car, it
takes him 4 hours. But , if he travels 130 km by train and the rest by car, he takes 18 minutes longer. Find the
speed of the train and that of the car.
Q 5. Points A and B are 90 km. apart from each other on a highway. A car starts from A and another from B at the
same time. If they go in the same direction, they meet in 9 hours and if they go in opposite directions, they
meet in 9/7 hours. Find their speeds.
