Did you know that modern English contains many words and phrases with
origins that go back to ancient Greece? And one of the expressions is Pandora’s
Box. I think you guys might have heard it before at least once. I’ll give you guys
an example, for example, I'll say the internet is a Pandora’s Box, because it has
given people access to a lot of information and ideas, but it has also made it
easier for people to spread misinformation and hate speeches. Now did you get
the idea? Pandora’s Box is something that produces unexpected problems or
difficulties, that came from the Greek myth that explains how evil and suffering
came into existence in a world that was originally devoid of them. The story
starts with the Greek god, named Prometheus who took care of human beings.
One day he stole fire from Zeus and gave it to human beings, because of that
Prometheus got a horrible punishment from Zeus. However, Zeus wasn't
satisfied with that he also wanted human beings to get punished. So he ordered
Hephaestus to create the first woman, Pandora and each of the gods bestowed
a special gift upon her. Aphrodite gave her beauty, Hermes gave her the ability
to be crafty, and Zeus gave her a box and admonished her never to open it.
However, he also gave her the gift of curiosity. Zeus sent Pandora to live on
Earth as a mortal. She married and lived happily, without any problem except
the desire that she wanted to open the box that Zeus had given her. However,
the desire to open the box became bigger and bigger when the day passed. In
conclusion, she couldn’t bear it anymore and opened the box. All the evils in the
world flew out of Pandora’s Box in a second. Greed, envy, hatred, fear, disease,
and despair. All appeared on Earth for the first time. After all the evils of the
world released Pandora she immediately closed the box but it already
happened. All the evils were out and she had been Zeus’s unwitted helper as
she opened the box. The story in the book ends like this however there is an
actual ending after Pandora closes the box. There was still one thing remaining
inside. It was hope, it was still there since the evils that escape from the jar

only become evil upon their release, however, the imprisonment of hope
allowed humanity to use it for good or evil. After the time went on Pandora once
again opened the box. When she opened the box, a warm beam of light floated
out as the light fluttered around the evil Pandora had released, her fear melted
away. She knew that opening the box was irreversible, but she had also set free
hope to temper the effect of the evils. As you guys listened the story tells us
that unchecked curiosity and disobedience can be dangerous and serves as a
helpful reminder of the value of following directions and the unexpected
outcomes that might result from inquiry
