i)In the proximal convoluted tubule of the nephron all the glucose is reabsorbed in the blood by
the process of selective reabsorption. Therefore , glucose is normally not found in urine.
ii) Medulla oblongata controls involuntary functions like heart beat, rate of respiration, etc.
Injury to medulla oblongata may result to stop of heart beat and breathing leading to death.

iii) Sharp objects can rupture our ear drum. It can lead to hearing loss .( puncture or any other
inappropriate word not accepted)

iv) A drunk person walks clumsily because , due to the effect of alcohol , the cerebellum is unable
to coordinate muscular movements properly.Cerebellum controls body balance.muscular
coordination

v) The left ventricle has to pump blood till our toes and to the head against gravity with greater
force. So its wall are thicker. Right ventricle has thinner walls because it pumps blood only upto
the lungs.

Answer key.

a) i) Transpiration. Oil was added to prevent loss of water through evaporation. ( ½ + ½ =1)

ii) Weight of plant will be reduced as in bright sunlight , transpiration rate is high, so water is
lost in form of vapour leading to more absorption of water by roots from the jar. Thus , level
of water in jar decreases which will decrease the over all weight of the set up. ( ½ + ½ )

iii) 1. In humid conditions , transpiration rate is low, so level of water in jar will not
show much change. ( ½ )

2.On a windy day, transpiration rate is high so level of water in the jar will fall
rapidly. (½)

iv) Sunken stomata/ Modification of leaves into spines / presence of thick layer of cuticle
