4 Lights of two different frequencies whose photons have energies 1 eV and 2.5 eV respectively 1
successfully illuminates a metal surface whose work function is 0.5 eV, the ratio of maximum
kinetic energies will be :
(a) 1:2 (b) 2:1 (c) 1:4 (d) 4:1
OR
In a Photoelectric experiment the wavelength of incident radiation decreases, then
(a) Stopping potential will decrease (b) Stopping potential will increase
(c) Maximum kinetic energy of emitted electrons will decrease (d) Work function will decrease

5 In the following questions, a statement of Assertion is followed by a statement of reason. Choose the 1
correct answer out of the below mentioned options:
(A) Both Assertion and reason are true and reason is correct explanation of assertion.
(B) Assertion and reason both are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.
(C) Assertion is true, reason is false.
(D) Assertion is false, reason is also FALSE
Assertion: the De Broglie equation has significance for any microscopic or submicroscopic particle .
Reason : the de Broglie wavelength is inversely proportional to the mass of object if velocity is
constant

6 Assertion: A photon has no rest mass, yet it carries definite momentum 1

Reason: Momentum of photon is due to its energy and hence equivalent mass

SECTION – B
Q. no. 7 to 8are very short answer questions.

7 2
The amount of solar energy that touches the earth’s surface is 1.388103 W/m². How many photons
are incident on the Earth each second per square metre (almost)? Assume that the photons present in
the sunlight have an approximate wavelength of 550 nm.

8 2
What will be the de Broglie wavelength in the following cases:
(a) a bullet having a mass 0.040 kg and is travelling at 1.0 km/s speed.
(b) a ball having a mass of 0.060 kg that is moving at 1.0 m/s speed.

OR

of electromagnetic radiation.

SECTION - C
Q.no. 9 to 10 are short answer questions.

9 a)Find the quantity of photons released each second by a 10 kW medium wave transmitter with a 500 3
m radio wave emission wavelength.
(b) Find the quantity of photons entering our eye’s pupil per second that corresponds to the lowest
white light intensity that humans are able to perceive. Assume that the pupil is 0.4 cm^2 in size and
that white light has an average frequency to be approximately 61014 Hz.
OR
i)A proton and an electron have equal speeds. Find the ratio of de Broglie wavelengths associated

wavelength associated with them? How are their kinetic energies related to
each other?
SECTION - D
Q.no. 11 is case- based question.

11 de Broglie wave associated with an electron can form a standing wave between the atoms arranged in 4
one-dimensional array with nodes at each of the atomic sites. For a standing wave, the separation
between two consecutive nodes is λ/2, where λ is the wavelength of the wave. It is found that one
such standing wave is formed if the distance (d) between two atoms is 2 Å. A similar standing wave

(b) 1 nm
(c) 0.1 nm
(d) 0.1 mm
