Most prashastis also mention the ancestors of the ruler. This one mentionsSamudragupta’s great
grandfather, grandfather, father and mother. His mother, Kumara Devi belonged to the
Lichchhavigana while his father, Chandragupta, was the first ruler of the Gupta dynasty to adopt
