As an institution, we highly recognize the needs and development of our students’ capacity in
learning and reading. We value reading as an integral part of the learning process. With these,
our school, Manikling National High School, with several students, aims to give quality
enhancement in the field of reading. Our institution has constantly improved itself to guide
students to become excellent readers—with excellent comprehension, easy decoding of complex
texts, and advanced critical thinking. This vision in reading proficiency isn't simply a matter of
individual aptitude; it's a complex issue shaped by a confluence of internal and external factors.
The internal factors faced by our school have contributed to the learning gap of our
learners. Our current status as a newly built school limits access to resources like fully
booked buildings for libraries and access to reading facilities. A teacher-student ratio
makes it more challenging for teachers to provide differentiated approaches to cope with
the different levels of students’ reading and learning styles.
External factors like the socioeconomic status of each student have made it more difficult
for both teachers and students to cope with their learning needs. Hence, most of the
learners faced limitations and the scarcity of materials for school in both academics and
reading enhancement, which caused learning hindrances to occur.
With the constant problem in reading, we have decided to use a personalized reading approach
for reading enhancement. This strategy is organized to cater to all learning and reading styles of
each learner. Hence, we understood that every student learns in his or her own way and needs a
customized approach in order to reach his or her highest potential.
Independent Readers: These students performed very well on our pre-reading assessment,
meaning they can read independently with little or no support.
Instructional Readers: This category shows reading proficiency, but a few have problems
understanding.
Frustration Readers: They scored below average on the pre-reading assessment and had
lots of reading problems.
2. Differentiated Instruction: From diagnostic assessments, instruction will be differentiated
to meet individual needs. This might include
Leveled Reading Materials: exposing students to books and texts leveled to their
reading so neither frustration nor boredom is experienced
3. Teacher Training and Support: Our teachers receive ongoing professional development in
differentiated instruction, assessment techniques, and the effective use of technology to
support personalized learning.
By putting this customized learning approach into effect, we would reduce reading
performance gaps significantly, creating a higher level of reading comprehension and fluency
with greater confidence across all students. We would expect the improvement to be transferred
not only in reading but also in other academic areas since strong reading skills form the
foundation for mastery across the curriculum. Continued resources, teacher training, and ongoing
assessment would drive the long-term success of the personalized learning initiative in the
school. "We will continually track student progress, change strategies as needed, and ensure
every student at Manikling National High School learns to read confidently and competently.".
