Chapter 1 RS141

The document outlines the structure and components of a research study, including the problem statement, theoretical framework, assumptions, hypotheses, scope, significance, and definitions of terms. It emphasizes the importance of identifying a problem, formulating research questions, and establishing a conceptual framework to guide the study. Additionally, it discusses the relevance of the research and the need for clear definitions of terms used in the study.

CHAPTER I : THE PROBLEM

Introduction
 Presentation of the Problem
 The existence of an unsatisfactorily condition, a felt
problem that needs a solution ( Back up support study-
statistical reports)
 Rationale of the Study – the reasons why it is necessary
to conduct the study
 Historical background of the problem
 A desire to find a better way of doing something, to
improve, or to discover
 Geographical conditions of the locale study
 A link between introduction and statement of the
problem
 Objectives of the research
THEORETICAL and CONCEPTUAL
FRAMEWORK
 Theories are derived from conducting review literature
studies. Read and analyze what theories would you
used in the study.
 Conceptual framework becomes the central theme, the
focus, the main thrust of the study. Conceptual are
derived from review literature studies.
 It serves as guide in conducting the research
 A paradigm is formulated in the form of box figure and
it contains variables and parameters of the study
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
 There should be a general statement of the whole
problem followed by the specific questions or
subproblems into which the general problem is broken
up
 See your conceptual framework in which would be the
basis of your statement of the problem
 See to it that it is answerable by gathering of the data
Assumptions

 An assumption is a self-evident truth which is based

upon a known fact or phenomenon
 Discuss the assumption that the instrument you will
used in the study that are calibrated and survey
questionnaires are reliable.
Hypothesis

 It is a tentative conclusion or answer to a specific

question raised at the beginning of the research
 Intellectual guest answer to the specific questions
 There are two forms: Null hypothesis and alternative
hypothesis
Scope and Delimitation
Guidelines:
A brief statement of the general purpose of the study
Subject matter and topics studied and discussed
Limitations of the study is discussed
Locale of the study, where the data were gathered or the
entity to which the data belong
Population or universe from which the respondents were
selected
The period of the study
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Guidelines:
Discussed the relevance and purpose of the study. Who
are the beneficiaries/ benefited of the study.
Possible solutions to the existing problems or
improvement to unsatisfactory conditions
Possible contribution to the fund of knowledge
Rationale and timeliness of the study
Definition of Terms
GUIDELINES:
Enumerate the terms and variables used in the study and
give meaning
Definitions should be as clear, brief and unequivocal
The researcher may develop his own definition derived
from characteristics of the term defined
The terms should be defined operationally, that is, how
they are used in the study
