CHAPTER III

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the overall framework and methodology that the
researcher used in the conduct of the study. This included the methods,
respondents of the study, procedure of investigation, instrumentation, data
analysis and statistical tool used.

Research Methods

A study evaluated a regimen containing antioxidants and barrier-

enhancing agents over 24 weeks, showing significant reductions in hair
shedding and improvements in scalp condition and hair count1.

Another study used human scalp samples to assess the impact of hair
products, finding no significant dermal penetration or adverse effects on hair
follicle health2.

These methods highlight the importance of both product formulation and

application techniques in maintaining scalp and hair health.

Respondent of the Study

In studies examining the effects of hair products on scalp health,

respondents reported various outcomes:

Nutritional Supplement Study: Participants (N=15) experienced significant

improvements in hair volume, scalp coverage, and thickness after 90 days of
treatment, with no adverse effects noted1.

Among 360 participants, those using a treatment shampoo reported

increased hair counts and reduced shedding, with many expressing
satisfaction with their hair’s appearance2.

Involving 80 participants, significant improvements in hair luster and

elasticity were reported after 24 weeks, with high participant satisfaction
scores3.

Instrumentation

Instrumentation used to assess the effects of hair products on the scalp

includes various advanced devices:
Measures hair density, growth rate, and hair cycle phases using image
analysis software, providing quantitative data on hair improvement over time
.

Accurately determines sebum levels on the scalp, crucial for evaluating

oily scalp conditions

Measures scalp pH to assess product effects on scalp acidity and health 1.

Utilizes high-resolution imaging to analyze scalp condition and hair

structure

Evaluates the physical properties of hair and products, including

combability and elasticity.

Procedure of Investigation

Utilize a clinical trial format with control and experimental groups to

assess various hair products.

Recruit a diverse group of participants, ensuring representation across

different demographics (age, gender, ethnicity).

Apply selected hair products (e.g., shampoos, serums) over a defined

period, monitoring variables like hair growth rate, density, and scalp health.

Data Analysis

Use self-assessment questionnaires to gather subjective feedback on

product effectiveness.

Assess hair and scalp conditions using tools like TrichoScan® to measure
hair density and scalp health indicators.

Analyze the collected data using statistical software (e.g., SPSS) to

determine correlations and significance levels regarding product efficacy.

Summarize findings to highlight the overall impact of hair products on hair

and scalp health, including ang adverse effects noted during the study.
