Assignment 2 KEANDALAN STL

The document outlines an assignment involving calculations for loss of load expectation in a power system with various generating capacities and failure rates for feeders. It includes specific peak load values for which the loss of load expectation must be calculated, both before and after adding a new thermal unit. Additionally, it details the failure rates and restoration times for different feeder components and provides parameters for analyzing primary main faults.

ASSIGNMENT 2

1. A power system contains the following generating capacity.

3 x 40 MW hydro units FOR = 0,005
1 x 50 MW thermal unit FOR = 0.02
1 x 60 MW thermal unit FOR = 0.02
The annual daily peak load variation curve is given by a straight line from the 100%
to the 40% points.
(a) Calculate the loss of load expectation for the following peak load values,
(i) 150 MW (ii)160MW (iii)170MW
(iv) 180 MW (v) 190 MW (vi) 200 MW

(b) Calculate the loss of load expectation for the following peak load values, given
that another 60 MW thermal unit with a FOR of 0.02 is added to the system.
(i) 200MW (ii) 210MW (iii) 220 MW (iv) 230MW
(v) 240 MW (vi) 250 MW (vii) 260 MW

2. A feeder is composed of an overhead section and an underground section. Find the

failure rate and restoration time for the feeder given the following component rates:
Overhead feeder: 0. 1 fault/cct-mi-yr.
Underground feeder: 0.1 fault/cct-mi-yr.
Cable termination: 0.002 fault/termination-yr.

3. Manually sectionalized primary main See Figure 1 for the interruption

analysis of this problem.
Primary main permanent fault characteristics:
0.07 fault/cct-mi-yr, 3-h av repair time.
Primary lateral faults resulting in fuse clearing:
0.18 fault/cct-mi-yr, I-h av repair time.
Allow 0.5 h for manual sectionalizing.
