Module 0: Introduction +

Setup
🌄 Introduction
Welcome! This is the first step in an exciting journey that you are about
to embark upon, Programming can be an enriching and exciting field,
and with the right knowledge, you can make great strides in your
programming career. Learning the basics of programming is the key to
unlocking a world of possibilities. In the next 5 days, you will learn the
fundamental elements that make up the essential knowledge of most
programming languages. With this knowledge, you will gain a greater
understanding of the world of programming and be able to create useful
applications and programs. So, get your coding gears ready, and let's
get started!

🧭 Overview
This is the first class that you are about to take and it is the most
important one since it will prepare you and your device for the classes
ahead.

⌛ Duration: 50 mins.

You will need the following things to be able to follow along:

A smartphone with a stable internet connection and 500 Mb of free


storage.

You must already have a Google account / Gmail, if you don’t then

Activity 1: Install Jupyter.

Activity 2: Sign up for Piazza.

Pydroid 3
The Jupyter Notebook is a web-based interactive computing platform
and provides a programmer with a code playground where they can
write, test, and run different modules. We will be using it to provide you
with interactive exercises otherwise known as notebooks that will help
you learn so having it is a must.
⏳Duration: 20 mins.
🎯Goal: To install and set up Jupyter Notebook on your phone.
📋Instructions:
Step 1: Watch the video linked below and set up Jupyter Notebook
on your phone.

After you are done setting up Jupyter, upload a screenshot of your
Jupyter notebook under the respective assignment using this link:

2️⃣ Activity 2: Sign up for piazza


Piazza is a free online platform where students can ask, answer, and
explore other people’s questions. We will now guide you through the
process of signing up for our piazza classroom.

⌛ Duration: 15 mins.

🎯 Goal: To sign up for Piazza and join our classroom. To understand
how to use piazza to ask/answer a question.
📋 Instructions:
Step 1: on your browser open the following link 👇

Step 2: Watch the following video and follow the instructions to join
our class.

Note:

The video asks you to ask for your school email. Don’t worry
about that. Use your Email to sign up.

Step 3: Open the Google Play Store app found on your phone

Step 4: Go to the search bar at the top and type piazza then hit
search :

Step 5: Once you find the Piazza app click install.

Step 6: Open Piazza and log in using your email and password.

Step 7: Click on the link below to watch a YouTube video on how to


use piazza.

Note: The app in the video looks a bit different than your phone
so to follow along do the following.

Ask a question:

Step 1: Press the three dots at the top right-hand side of


your screen.

Step 2: Go to the compose: section and press new
question.

Step 9: check out the different sections from the above screenshot
and find out what they do.

🧠 Exercise: Ask and Answer on Piazza


Step 1: Open the Piazza app on your phone.

Step 2: Ask a question you have regarding the module or the


BootCamp (mandatory).

Step 3: While on Piazza, add an answer to the Question titled. How


did you find the onboarding presentation?

Note: You can also answer questions asked by your fellow


students.

Summary
Well Done! You have made it to the end of the module, here is what we
have done so far:

You submitted your first assignment.

You used Pydroid and Jupyter Notebook to write and test some
Python code.

You signed up for Piazza and asked your first question.
