General Guidelines for Assessment

1. Attach a title page to your assignment. Use the previous page as your cover sheet
and be sure to fill in the details correctly.
2. All assignment work should be prepared using word processing software and should
be organized and structured

Word Processing Guidance

1. Use a font type that makes it easy for your examiner to read, for example, Ariel or
Times New Roman.
2. Use 1.5-line line spacing. Left justify all paragraphs.
3. Ensure that all headings are consistent in terms of size and font style.
4. Use the footer function to insert your Student ID, Name, Subject, Module code, and
Page Number on each page.
5. Use the spell check and grammar check functions to check your assignment.

Assignment Submission

1. Ensure that you give yourself enough time to complete the assignment by the due
date. You must take responsibility for managing your own time effectively.
2. Submit an electronic version uploaded to the student learning management system
on or before the stated deadline.
3. Submissions received up to 72 hours after the deadline will be penalized in line with
ISDC’s Late Submission Policy. Thereafter submissions will not be accepted.
4. If you are unable to hand in your assignment on time and have valid reasons such as
illness, you may apply (in writing) for an extension under the terms of the ISDC
Mitigating Circumstances Policy.
5. Non-submission of work without a valid reason will lead to an automatic REFERRAL.
You will then be asked to complete an alternative assignment. Your work will be
capped at a PASS.

Declaration of Authenticity

6. Take great care that when you use other people’s work or ideas in your assignment,
you properly reference, using the HARVARD referencing system, in your text and
any bibliography. Failure to do so could lead to an investigation and possible
penalties for plagiarism, in line with ISDC’s Malpractice Policy.

Assignment: Presentation and Article

Task 1: Communication Process in an Organization


 Select a company that interests you. It can be the organization that you are
working for or any other organization.
 Find the hierarchical structure in your/any organization and represent the
same in a tree diagram.
 Explain upward, downward, horizontal and diagonal communication with
examples from the above structure.
 Explain grapevine communication and discuss the possible informal
communication that could exist in an organization.
 Discuss the technology used for communication in the organization. Outline
its merits and demerits.

Task 2: Written Communication in an Organization


 Explain the components of the 7Cs of communication and their importance in
developing good writing skills.
 You are a part of corporate communication team in your company. The
working time is revised as 8.30 AM to 5 PM. Write an e-mail to all the
employees in your company informing the same.
This e-mail will be a dummy e-mail and should not be sent to the company

Task 3: TED Talk PowerPoint Presentation


 Develop a presentation using PowerPoint (or another presentation package)
about any TED talk of your choice. You have to analyze the talk based on
parameters discussed in the class e.g., ethos, pathos, and logos used to
present the arguments, verbal and non-verbal cues, different negotiation or
persuasion techniques used, etc. Also, comment on the body language of the
speaker.
 You should produce a maximum of 10 slides.
 When you have prepared your presentation please reflect on the slides and
add a maximum of 2 slides to provide your learnings. What are the areas that
you would like to strengthen?
 You may call these slides ‘Self-Improvement’.
 You are required to submit your full set of 12 slides as part of the evaluation.
Total maximum 13 slides.

Task 4: Compose an Article for a Journal

Write an illustrated article for a journal that has a non-specialist audience. Your
article should include the following points:
● Explain communication and describe the process of communication.
● Discuss the common barriers in communication and measures to reduce the
communication barriers.
● Describe the concept and importance of non-verbal communication and
identify the difference between verbal and non-verbal communication.
● Explain different types of reports and their purposes.
● Produce an outline structure and format of a formal report.
● Describe with examples how meaningful visual media (charts, diagrams,
images, videos and other visual media) can be incorporated

The total number of words for your article should be approximately 2000 words
