ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I wish to convey my sincere thanks to the Principal
Mr. Anzar Abdul Salam for providing the
opportunity to work on a project which would
help us become more knowledgeable in the field
of Physics.

I am very thankful to the Physics teacher Mr.

Arghya Maity for the best guidance and moral
support which helped me in wrapping up this
project. Thanks to my parents, who helped me
throughout to research about this project.

I would certainly not forget to thank my uncle and

neighbour who helped me to find the materials
required for this project.
What is a Full Wave
Rec fier?
A semiconductor device that is used to
change the complete AC cycle into
pulsa ng DC is known as full-wave
rec fier. This circuit uses the full wave
of the i/p AC signal whereas the half-
wave rec fier uses the half-wave. This
circuit is mainly used to overcome the
drawback of half-wave rec fiers like
low-efficiency drawback.
INTRODUCTION
A full wave rec fier is a device which is
used to rec fy all the alterna ng supply
and make it purely a direct current. The
two alterna ng halves of an alterna on
current are rec fied in a full wave rec fier
which is an advantage over half wave
rec fier. Most electronic devices cannot
withstand very high voltage or alterna ng
current due to their intense high power.
The use of ba eries in all devices is not
prac cal as their replacement and
durability is a huge problem as the device
must be dismantled each me for such a
replacement. So, these rec fiers are used
in most electronic devices like TV’s,
Radios, Chargers, and Ligh ngs, etc.
AIM
To make a full wave rec fier.

APPARATUS REQUIRED
1.Transformer (Center tapped)

2.Diode 1N4007 (x2)

3.Resistor 470 ohm

4. 5mm LED

5.Capacitor 25v 220uF

6.Breadboard
SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM
PROJECT WORK :
PROCEDURE:
1.Take a breadboard.

2.According to the symbols, insert

various instruments.

3.Connect the instruments

respec vely in the breadboard.

4.Connect the two wires of the

transfer with the plug in to check if the
LED works.

5.Switch on the key, and we see the

LED glows.
WORKING:
The input AC supplied to the full wave
rec fier is very high. The step-down
transformer in the rec fier circuit converts
the high voltage AC into low voltage AC.
The anode of the center tapped diodes is
connected to the transformer’s secondary
winding and connected to the load
resistor. During the posi ve half cycle of
the alterna ng current, the top half of the
secondary winding becomes posi ve while
the second half of the secondary winding
becomes nega ve,
During the posi ve half cycle, diode D1 is
forward biased as it is connected to the
top of the secondary winding while diode
D2 is reverse biased as it is connected to
the bo om of the secondary winding. Due
to this, diode D1 will conduct ac ng as a
short circuit and D2 will not conduct
ac ng as an open circuit.
During the nega ve half cycle, the diode
D1 is reverse biased and the diode D2 is
forward biased because the top half of the
secondary circuit becomes nega ve, and
the bo om half of the circuit becomes
posi ve. Thus, in a full wave rec fier, DC
voltage is obtained for both posi ve and
nega ve half cycles.
GRAPHS
MERITS AND DEMERITS
Merits:
The rec fica on efficiency of a full wave
rec fier is double that of a half wave rec fier.
The ripple voltage is low and of higher
frequency is the case of a full wave rec fier so
simple filtering circuit is required.
Higher output voltage, higher output power
and higher TUF in case of a full wave rec fier.
In a full wave rec fier, there is no problem
due to DC satura on of the core because the
DC currents in the two halves of the
transformer secondary flow in opposite
direc ons.

Demerits:
Full wave rec fier needs more circuit
elements and is costlier.
APPLICATIONS
Because of their low cost compared to center
tapped, they are widely used in power supply
circuits.
This can be used to detect the amplitude of
modulated radio signal.
Bridge rec fiers can be used to supply
polarized voltage in welding.
In daily life, rec fiers find use in mobile
chargers.
These rec fiers are used in most electronic
devices like TV’s, Radio’s, Chargers, and
Ligh ngs etc.
