The Second English Exam.


Joanne Kathleen Rowling wrote her first book, Rabbit, when she was six
years old. She wrote many books after that but never published any of
them. However, one day, on the train between Manchester and London,
she had an idea for a story about a magical boy called Harry Potter. She
always liked reading stories about magic when she was a child and she was
excited about her new idea. When she arrived in London, she knew exactly
what she wanted to write.

At that time Rowling didn’t have a job and she was very poor. Every morningshe left her
freezing flat, took her baby, Jessica and sat and wrote in the local café. Unfortunately,
when she tried to sell her book, the publishers she contacted weren’t interested . Finally, a
small publisher, Bloomsbury, agreed to publish her book for a small amount of money. Her
books and the films that followed were a great success and J.K. Rowling is not poor any
more !
