3 -OPERATION
A. Driving parts
Display of the limit deviation is achieved with the help of a servo-galvanometer with a useful deflection
of 170”. This servometer comprises a motor winding, a tachometer winding and an angle detection
system. The technology used ensures very short response times.
Angle detection is done potentiometrically by means of a plastic track and a cursor (slide) fast with the
motor shaft.

The tachometer winding is superposed on the motor winding. It generates a signal proportional to the
rotational speed of the pointer in order to damp the latter’s movement (see CONDITIONING PCB).
A set of gears is used to multiply the deflection of the motor shaft. A spiral return spring, located on the
output shaft, totally cancels the gearing and returns the pointer to the downscale stop in the event of
power failure.
The servometer is interchangeable. When replaced, only the pointer span (full scale deflection) and zero
need adjustment (see CONDITIONING PCB).
The POWER SUPPLY PC board receives the 28 VDC aircraft mains voltage and generates the stabilized
DC voltages ( + 9 V, + 5 V, -5.168 V, -9 V, -22 V) required by the various indicator circuits.
The circuits on this board are configured around a 6800~series8-bit processor (Ul) clocked by a quartz
crystal (CLl).
Microprocessor operation is controlled by a watchdog circuit (U6). If the latter is not activated by the
microprocessor (port 1B6), a RESET command is sent to the microprocessor.
The circuits U13 and U14 handle digital to analog conversion (DAC) of the signal controlling the
servometer.

(2) Computation of the limit deviation
The deflection “D” of the pointer is computed, from the value of the “NG” speed (as a percent of nominal
speed) and from a tabulated value ‘A” [A = NG(PMD)] or [A’ = NG (PMU) ] (depending on the
indicator), using the following formulas :
-ifNGi A D= NG-A
NG-A
-ifNG> A D= 6
107.5 -A
NG-A
-ifNG> A’ : D= 1.5+4.5
107.5 - A’
The value of “D” must be within -11 and +6 or + 7, depending on the indicator.
If I’D” c - 11, the pointer position will be forced to its electronic downscale stop (visually distinct from
the “-11” scale mark).
If “D” > +6 or 7, the pointer position will be forced to the ‘I+6” or “7” scale mark.
The pointer servometer control signal (DAC) is developed through a digital-to-analog converter.
The values of “A or A’ ” are defined as a function of the outside pressure (representing the altitude) and
the temperature, according to the following tables :

The digital, ie. numerical, indication “I” of the LCDs is expressed as a percentage of the nominal
(rated) speed (NG nom = 8401 rpm).
The “I” indication can vary between “00.0” and “199.9’ and it is computed, based upon the NG speed
expressed in rpm, by the following formula :
NG
I = 100 -
8401
The test sequence is activated by pressing the test pushbutton on the front of the indicator. It serves to
check the operation of the following circuits :
- data processing circuits : microprocessor, clock, memory,
- analog display circuits : motor, D/A converter,
- digital display circuits : LCDs, buffer memory,
- ‘flag” circuits,
- external temperature probe.

The output stage (U2, Ql and Q2) delivers the control voltage for the servometer motor winding in response
to the following control signals :
- the servometer control voltage, “DAC”, sent by the “MICROPROCESSOR” PCB,
- the output voltage from the tachometer winding,
- the zero point adjustment voltage (potentiometer Pl).
The flag motor is switched on when the external status report “discharge valve control” goes to “OV”(valve F
opened). The corresponding input is at high impedance if the valve is closed.
The signals received from the speed (‘I, temperaturet2) and altitude(3)sensors are read by the CONDITIO-
NING PCB, then forwarded to the microprocessor.
The “AIDS” analog signal is the copy of the “I” indication. Its characteristics are as follows :
S = 0 V when “I” = 0
S = 5 V when “I” 1 106 %
NOTES :
(1) The speed sensor is a tachogenerator which supplies a sinewave whose frequency is the same as the
rotational speed in revolutions per second.

The “STORl”, STOR2” and “STOR3” signals correspond to preset thresholds of the ANG parameter.
They are developed, based on commands from the microprocessor, in accordance with the following table :
0 0 1 -3.5
1 0 1 0.4
1 1 1 0.8
The ALTITUDE SENSOR circuit is mounted on the CONDITIONING PCB. It consists of a compensated
piezo-resistive cell sensitive to the external pressure. Its measuring range is from - 1000 to + 20,000 feet.
Modulation of the LCD lighting is achieved by the “NORM/DIM” (indicators P/N 5633-710-80-11 and
5633-711-80-l 0) or “NORM/DIM/JVN” (indicator P/N 5633-712-20-l 1) external analog control, which varies
the cycle ratio of the current flowing in the LCDs. Potentiometers Pl and P2 respectively serve to adjust the
lighting’s intensity.

INTRODUCTION
l- GENERAL
The Illustrated Parts List (IPL) is prepared in compliance with ATA 100.The IPL is intended to identify all the
components of the unit.
The Detailed Parts List includes the nomenclature and illustrations of the unit components.
The figure number, covering items listed, is indicated on the first line at the top of each page.
Each part-numbered assembly, sub-assembly or item listed in the parts list is assigned an item number
followed by a letter identifying the variant. The basic variant is lettered A.
Assemblies, sub-assemblies and parts listed, but not illustrated, are identified by a dash (-) preceding the
corresponding item numbers.
A “lettered index” appearing before the item number is across reference to the illustration of the variant
called out from the corresponding main figure.

Each of the assemblies, sub-assemblies and detail parts, illustrated or not, is assigned a manufacturer’s
part number.
When the manufacturer’s actual part number exceeds 15 characters, an equivalent assigned part number
is listed in the “Part Number” column preceded by the following annotation :
Both part numbers are listed in the Alphanumeric Index in their logical order ; the actual overlength part
number is cross-referenced to the assigned part number preceded by the annotation : “SEE...“.
C. Nomenclature
The nomenclature is indented to show the relationship between the parts listed, as follows :
1234567
Assembly
Detail parts for assembly
Sub-assembly
Attaching parts and/or storage parts for sub-assembly
* * *
A vendor code is indicated for all items or articles not made by the prime manufacturer of the assembly.
This vendor code or the abbreviation “NP” (non procurable) is placed at the extreme right-hand side of the
1st line of the nomenclature.
An alphanumerical usage code indicates the applicability of sub-assemblies and detail parts to the next
higher assembly (ies) or sub-assembly (ies).
When the applicability is general, the usage code column is left blank.
The usage code corresponds to the figure/item number of the next higher assembly (ies) or sub-assembly
(ies). e.g., effectivity 1A, lB, 1C is written 1ABC.
