Let’s do this!
Try to remember the societal concerns that our country
endured during the quarantined period in the City of
Ilagan due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
List down five (5) professions you might want to pursue
in the future that you think will be helpful in this kind of
situation that we have at present. Do you think they
belong to the social sciences?

• Social sciences tend to
describe and explain the
relationships of people
within a society. This
supports social sciences as a
field of study as it examines
how people behave and the
effects of their actions in
society.
Science can be described
generally as an effort to
understand, explain and
make predictions about the
world using distinct methods
of inquiry in an attempt to
construct theories. Science
can be classified into two
main branches known as
natural science and social
science.
Natural science is a branch
of science that deals with the
natural world whereas social
science is a branch of
science that deals with
human society and social
relationships.
Thus, the main difference
between natural science and
social science is that natural
science studies natural
events whereas social
science studies the human
society.
Humanities are academic
disciplines that study aspects
of human society and
culture. It expounds the idea
of how humans originated
and how its values and
cultures emanate and evolve
over time.
The term "social science" has
been used to describe the
systematic study of human
interaction, which encompasses
many disciplines such as
economics, politics, psychology,
history, geography and a lot more.
It deals with humans as well as its
interaction to the society and
environment and how these
interactions can affect human lives
from past to present and up to the
future.
• Social Sciences attempt to explain and
describe human behavior in a society that
relates to the foundation and growth of
human society. It is often referred to as “soft
sciences”.
• Natural Sciences- are body of knowledge
that tends to study the natural world, are
sometimes called hard sciences, such as
biology, earth science, and physical
sciences.
• Humanities- It investigates human
contracts, and tends to humanize humans
through arts, music, and literature
• Both social sciences and natural
sciences use the scientific method
in dealing with their own fields,
social sciences apply the scientific
method in its attempt to explain
human behavior, while natural
sciences use it in gathering data
to understand natural
phenomena.
