I attended the New Media Arts Club bookmark workshop with a few friends after class, it brought

me back to the arts and crafts I would do at lower school levels which was refreshing
considering how college has been very different thus far. I was curious about attending this
workshop since I wanted to do something art-related on the side during my time in Baruch as it
is something I am passionate about outside of the major I’ve decided on choosing. It was
refreshing to meet people who also shared similar sentiments to me while at the workshop and
provided a wonderful opportunity to make more friends here. I also attended the Comparison is
the Thief of Joy workshop the Undergraduate Student Government at Baruch offered. With the
great rise of social media apps, body dysmorphia is very prevalent amongst the youth as I do
see myself comparing myself to others on it. Attending this workshop was nice as it allowed me
to physically hear the words coming from someone else rather than internalizing and
acknowledging it only to repeat the cycle once more. I limit my intake of TikTok for that reason
and have been for around a few months now. Although I still catch myself scrolling on other
platforms, I am also trying to limit that as well. I take this piece of advice to heart, as it is
something I am still actively trying to incorporate in my life considering how competitive simply
existing in our current society is. Even if life feels like a competition to who can do better, it’s
important to realize that constantly working yourself to an unrealistic ideal will leave one feeling
empty. The workshop provided tips, such as setting realistic goals because small improvements
rather than feeling stagnant in something unachievable will leave you feeling much more
fulfilled.
