I. Objectives After going through this lesson, it is expected that learner will be able to:
 Describe the earth’s movement on its axis.
 Explain how day and night happen as the Earth rotates on its axis.
 Perform an activity showing how the earth’s rotation causes day
and night.

Content standard The learner demonstrates understanding of earth’s rotation and revolution

Performance standard The learner should be able to design an emergency and prepared plan
and kit.

Learning competencies Differentiate between rotation and revolution and describe the effects of
earth’s motions. (S6ES-IVe-f-5)

II. Subject Matter  Topic: Rotation of the earth

 Science concepts:

2. Motivation:
 Show the students a mystery box.
 Ask pupils to choose one representative
per group who is good in drawing.
 Have the representatives peek inside the
box and draw what’s inside on the box.
(flashlight and globe)
 After that, they will stand on their assigned
position.
 Upon the teacher’s signal, the
representative will draw what they have
seen inside the box and
 Other members of the group will guess
what is the object is inside.
Ask:
What do you think this flashlight represents? Sun
What do you think this globe represents? Earth
To further pupils understanding of the concept
and skill, lead them t demonstrate how earth’s
rotation affects day and night through the use of
flashlight and globe.
We have here a globe and a flashlight. (unlock
the word globe)
We need 3 volunteers to illustrate to us the
following:
Ask: What makes day?
What makes night?
Today, we will find out more, how the earth’s
rotation causes day and night.
3. A. Standard in watching Video Clip. Yes, teacher.

a. Be quite and stay in your seat.

b. Look at the screen and don’t talk to your
classmates while watching.
c. Remember the important details in the
video shown.

4. What is an axis? which earths rotate.
5.Rotation
5. What do you call the movement of the
earth on its axis?
6.365 ¼ days.
6. How long does it take for the earth to make
one complete revolution?
7.because of the
rotation of the earth
7. What causes day and night? on its axis.

Let’s find out more what causes night and day by

doing the activity.

B. Activity Proper
1. Instruct pupils to form 2 groups.
2. Each group will choose a leader and a
reporter.
3. Each group will be given an activity card.
4. The activity sheets serve as your guide on
the activity that you are going to perform.
5. All the members in the group must work as
a team.
