Mensuration - Class 8 Mathematics

Mensuration is the branch of mathematics dealing with the measurement of lengths, areas, and

volumes.

1. Surface Area of 3D Shapes:

- Surface Area of a Cube = 6 × (side)^2

- Surface Area of a Cuboid = 2 × (lb + bh + hl)

- Surface Area of a Cylinder = 2 * pi * r * (h + r)

- Surface Area of a Cone = pi * r * (l + r)

- Surface Area of a Sphere = 4 * pi * r^2

- Surface Area of a Hemisphere = 3 * pi * r^2

2. Volume of 3D Shapes:

- Volume of a Cube = (side)^3

- Volume of a Cuboid = l × b × h

- Volume of a Cylinder = pi * r^2 * h

- Volume of a Cone = (1/3) * pi * r^2 * h

- Volume of a Sphere = (4/3) * pi * r^3

- Volume of a Hemisphere = (2/3) * pi * r^3

3. Units of Measurement:

- Length is measured in units like meters (m), centimeters (cm), etc.

- Area is measured in square units like m^2, cm^2, etc.

- Volume is measured in cubic units like m^3, cm^3, etc.

4. Applications:

- Real-life problems involving surface areas and volumes of objects like boxes, tanks, spheres,

etc.

- Calculating costs of painting or wrapping objects based on surface area.
