OVERVIEW:

The Project a newly Proposed G+M Warehouse & Office, to be equipped with sustainable features and which
can set an example of how to incorporate environmental sustainability. The project is in Plot No. S51004, Jabal
Ali Industrial 2 Dubai (U.A.E). The owner’s goal is to build a sustainable building following Green Building
Features & Regulation.

The project HVAC design has been developed in compliance with ASHRAE 55-2004. ASHRAE 62.1-2007 standard
has been considered for developing the ventilation systems design for all the spaces with sedentary activities
and non-sedentary activities. Thermal criteria and design for this building is based on all major environmental
factors mentioned in the standard:

1. Metabolic Rate
2. Clothing Insulation
3. Air Temperature
4. Radiant Temperature
5. Air Speed
6. Humidity

1. Metabolic Rate: Occupants are expected to have regular activities as specified in Appendix
A of the standard (pg.15) resulting in metabolic rates of 1.0 met and 2.0 met.

2. Clothing Insulation: As per table B1 and B3 in the standard the occupants are expected to
have Icl (clo) values of 0.5-0.6 in hot weather and 1.0-1.2 in cold.

3. Air Temperature & Radiant Temperature: The proposed Warehouse is designed with
active mechanical and fresh air delivery systems. Indoor and outdoor air is expected to be of
suitable temperature for mechanical and fresh air systems, with appropriate monitoring and
alarm systems to inform the building operators about the performance of the systems.

Active mechanical system is designed to maintain the space conditioning for occupied hours
in the thermal comfort zone, as specified in figure 5.2.1.1, for 80% occupant acceptability.

4. Air Speed: The location of the proposed warehouse will be in JAFZA. The proposed
Warehouse is not affected by high winds. Moreover, the mechanical systems are designed to
condition all the spaces with no dependence on natural air draft.

5. Humidity: UAE climate is relatively hot and humid. Dubai has considerable days in a year

where the humidity reaches the higher levels of humidity and has mild climate throughout
the year with no large diurnal fluctuations. The mechanical systems do not have humidity
controls.

As seen by these factors, the mechanical and the fresh air system provided for the building is
expected to have thermal comfort for the occupants as required by ASHRAE 55-2004
standard.

Find below the Temperature & Humidity maintained for the occupied areas:

Season Maximum Indoor Space Minimum Indoor Space Maximum Indoor

Design Temperature Design Temperature Space Design
(deg F) (deg F) Humidity

Summer 74⁰F 73⁰F 60%**

Winter 74⁰F 64⁰F * 60%**

*Indoor temperature during winter is expected to go down to 64⁰F, as there is no dedicated heating systems
considered for the project to maintain minimum temperature during winters.
**Humidity control is not provided as part of the project scope.

The Psychometric Chart shows DB, WB, and DP temperature.
