SEMESTER 4

COMPUTER APPLICATION IN ARCHITECTURE-II

2024
Introduction
In this course, the aim was to introduce software applications that could help the students not only to
grasp the concept of 3D modelling but to be proficient in all software applications that could help them in
their careers. It also aims to introduce and focus more on applications that are efficient in producing
quality work rather than just raw visual fidelity.

List of Assignments
▪ AutoCAD revision submission (Pdf file)
▪ REVIT Model submission (Revit file)
▪ Logo Design using vectors (Jpeg and Svg file)
▪ Rendered 3D View (Jpeg images)
▪ Walkthrough Video submission (Video Upload)

Revision of AutoCAD
This short topic aims to revise and cover the previous semester work done on Autodesk AutoCAD. Students
were not very familiar with tools like printing on scale on layouts so this was added to the CAD revision. As
this tool is used in most Architecture firms to generate printouts it was advised that the students go
through this course.

3D Modelling in Autodesk REVIT

Introduction to 3D modelling using Autodesk REVIT as it is the most appropriate software to develop
systems of a building in layers which can be modified as a whole or individually. Creation of windows,
staircases, doors, furniture, railings can be easily done with proper scale and dimensions and is helpful for
students.
The students used the previous semester design work of residential building as the model base for learning
3D modelling.

Revit models submission

Importing and refining models in SketchUp

Tutorial on how to export and import models to different applications including from REVIT to SketchUp. A
few classes are done on the introduction of Sketchup for modelling as well as refining their imported
model with furniture and textures for surfaces. These will be the final touches before rendering is started.

Working with vectors and Logo design

Concept of vectors was introduced to students as well as it uses and advantages over bitmap images. For
this topic an exercise was given individually to create a logo of an architecture studio of their own design.

Vector logo design submission

Rendering of Models
Rendering was done on the existing model after importing as the steps below
▪ Importing SketchUp model to Lumion
▪ Fixing and relocation the model in place
▪ Selection of Materials in Lumion which are higher quality than Sketchup
▪ Adding additional furniture and other models in the interior
▪ Adding surrounding trees and water bodies
▪ Render settings and camera controls before finally rendering

Interior room renders

Walkthrough Videos
Using Lumion the same rendered models can be used to create walkthroughs. But this walkthrough can be
disjointed and without any proper context so additional editing must be done in video editing applications.
Things like transitions, video speed, audio and labels were later added to the walkthrough videos to
further enhance it. These videos are uploaded to YouTube as a submission.
