S11 Biobytes+ +11+ +Urine+Formation

The document explains the process of urine formation in the kidneys, highlighting the structure and function of nephrons, which are the functional units of the kidney. It details the three main processes involved: glomerular filtration, tubular reabsorption, and tubular secretion. Each kidney contains approximately 1 million nephrons that facilitate the excretion of nitrogenous waste and the regulation of essential substances in the blood.

URINE FORMATION
Structure of Nephron

● Kidney helps in excretion of the

nitrogenous waste.
● Each kidney contains approximately 1
million nephron and acts as functional
unit of kidney.
Glomerular Filtration

Water and solutes smaller than proteins are

forced through the capillary walls and pores of
the glomerular capsule into the renal tubule.
Tubular Reabsorption

● The movement of substances from the

tubular fluid back into the blood.
● Water, glucose, amino acids, and needed
ions are transported out of the filtrate into
the tubule cells and then enter the
capillary blood.

Tubular Secretion

● The movement of substances from the

blood into the tubular fluid.
● H+, K+, creatinine, and drugs are removed
from the peritubular blood and secreted
by the tubule cells into the filtrate.
