The year is 2050 the planet has surpassed the reversible period of controlling climate change damage. The
Earth is vulnerable to ecological and natural disasters. Our team has come up with an imaginative and
innovative way to establish colonisation on Mars.
Our settlement is made on the lava-free part of a plain on mars called ‘Acidalia Planitia’. This is because this
plain has the highest uranium density since mining uranium for fusion is be one of the main source of
electricity along with solar panels and piezoelectricity.
Crops like Potatoes, Broccoli, Onion along with others will be grown using aeroponics. since this ensures
less water-wastage. Secondly, we will make use of 3D bio-printers for 3D printing edible meat which is a
healthier alternative.
Most of the labour including construction, mining, house hold work etc. will be done by various automations
and robots. There are even medical robots that would be precise and accurate enough to perform surgery.
Aside from that, automation systems have been provided for personal use including a pet robot.
As far as residencies go, there are 3 different types residencies for luxury stays, scientific research facilities
and lodging for refugees.
One crucial factor about our settlement is that no resource is wasted. Instead, most of the resources have
been recycled: Organic waste is being repurposed to make biofuel, leftover hydrogen from spaceships are
being reused to make water etc.
Our settlement will be made on the lava-free part of a plain on mars called
‘Acidalia Planitia’. This is because this plain has the highest uranium
density on mars and therefore, with the help of mining robots, abundant
uranium will be obtained. Also, this place has a stable temperature, making it more comfortable for our
inhabitants. Image Credits: businessinsider.com (click here for image)
MAGNETIC FIELD
To prevent our settlement from the harmful radiations that the atmosphere of mars may contain, an artificial
magnetic field will be created using a very a large iron ore and pass electricity through it to make it a magnet and
abundant fuel (with less current and more voltage) This fuel would be provided by the methods of electricity
production mentioned below
OXYGEN
The atmosphere of mars has 95% of carbon dioxide, so, CO2 to Oxygen converters will be used on a large scale
to get a large supply of oxygen.
WATER
Some water and hydrogen will be carried on the multiple spaceships coming from earth and the leftover
hydrogen fuel from the spaceships will be reused. This hydrogen will be combined with part of the oxygen
produced to create water . For the making of water we will also be using the process of ‘Effective Collision’.
This process will give us high amount of heat energy to combine the two gases to give the purest form of water.
The process will be performed in orientation barriers and will use solar energy . We will be adding minerals to
make this water drinkable.
ELECTRICITY
Solar Panels: Solar panels would be placed in a large quantity all around
our settlement and on top of each house. The transportation robots will
also help to place additional solar panels in the places receiving the most
sunlight depending upon the position of mars. There wouldn’t be that
much shifting for these additional solar panels since the speed of mars’
revolution around the sun is way slower as compared to earth.
Exercycles: Several buildings are dedicated just for the fitness of people since the muscle mass gets lower as we
spend time in space. In these buildings, several equipment including exercycles which would help in converting
kinetic energy into electrical energy. In this way electricity would be produced simultaneously as the people are
exercising. This electricity will be stored in large nickel-metal hydride batteries due to their greatly large
capacity, quick recharging abilities and environment friendliness. It is expected that by 2070, NiMH batteries
would become way more advanced.
Transparent Solar Panels: For maximum use of solar energy, the windows will contain transparent solar panels
since almost every house will have a window and these solar panels would act as a source of energy as well as
being see-through.
Uranium for Fusion: Uranium will be mined from the surface using the mining robots which will be explained
later (under Technological Engineering) . In the starting few years, uranium will be used directly, but after that
plutonium will be obtained from uranium and use that since plutonium is more efficient.
Biofuel: Biofuels are renewable transportation fuels where organic waste is converted into biofuel to produce
electricity. Transportation robots( please see Technological Engineering) will run on this recycled transportation
fuel.
CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS
FOOD PRODUCTION
3d Bio-printing meat: For non-vegetarians, meat will be produced by 3D-Bio printing meat. This is a healthier
alternative, and it also decreases inhumane killing of animals. Technically, since this is not actual meat (but
tastes the same), even vegetarians can eat it.
TEMPORARY SETTLEMENT
When the spaceship from earth will land on mars, the spaceships would be
converted into temporary habitats for the humans to live in the till the settlement
is constructed. These would later be repurposed
WASTE MANAGEMENT
Waste will be recycled and repurposed. The 10% being sent to the landfill
where the waste will be further broken down to make biofuel
ROBOTS
Construction Robot: Tank shaped robot that has 2 bulky arms. It has an
advanced 3d printer on it to print using any material. It contains
materials to 3d print inside it so that it can print at any given time. It can
swap out its hands for any other tool for any task that has to be
performed. It uses Artificial Intelligence to calculate the fastest method
to perform a task. To bear the harsh environment of mars it will be made
of tough materials namely titanium, aluminum, tungsten, and a titanium
alloy. For movement, it will be using treads and thrusters for speed. Powered by solar panels.
Mining Robot: The robot has a cylindrical container with deep scoops
in it that collect resources while mining. For deeper mining, the robot
has 2 extendable drills for hands to drill through any material on mars
and to dig bigger tunnels. The robot can interchange the cylindrical
scoops for a drill to cover a larger surface area. The drills are made of
cubic boron nitride and the body uses tungsten titanium alloy. Treads
and thrusters are used for more speed. Powered by kinetic energy
transformation system.
Restaurant robot B.A.R.L.E.Y: A robot that will have all the essentials
required for basic cooking. It will have a storage compartment where it will
collect all the used plates and left-over food using it hands. It would be able to
suck up any food particles from the ground using suction pads at its bottom,
simultaneously cleaning the floor and tables.
REPAIRO ROBOT: It is a 5 feet robot that can move fast. It will have 6
hands which can repair the robot very quickly. The 6 different arms can be
equipped with different tools. Whenever there is an ambulance going to save a
person there will be one repairing robot with the ambulance so that in the case
of emergency the repairing robot can do its job there and then. This robot will
be with almost every automation robot to aid in any scenario.
Household robot Butler Martin: It will be a cuboid with a big surface area,
and it can be extended up to 5 ft. It will have 2 extendable hands. These arms
will help the robot to do work such as cooking, cleaning, and helping the
residents. It would have a tablet at the top using which the user would be able
to set a routine for it and give it customized commands. The user can also use
voice commands. For example: - “Hey Martin, can you play Bollywood songs
on shuffle?”, or “Hey Martin, prepare my morning tea with some hardboiled
eggs please”.
Cleaning robot: It is a cylindrical-shaped robot that will work with concept of
nanobots. It has a vacuum cleaner as its feet. This robot will be further divided
into small robots which will have two arms each. These mini robots will spread
throughout the settlement during a specific time and clean it. In case of an
emergency, it can send a signal to the specific robot to help. It will act both as a
surveillance and a cleaning robot.
Human intervention: Humans will have full control over the construction
activities through a temporary server which will be designed for remote human control in the early construction
stages. While en route, whenever any robot malfunctions, humans would be able to take remote control of any of
the robots through control center and would be able to perform any
procedures remotely.
Doctor robot: The Cuboidal 4 feet Robot will attend to all trauma and
urgent cases in every hospital around the settlement. It will have knowledge
of every medical procedure to be done and the skill to perform any medical
surgery ever done. The bot will have a wide array of surgical instruments,
an oxygen cylinder, and other medical equipment and medicines in the
compartment which will be situated in the middle part of its body.
Ambulance robot: This robot will be a big sized tube which will have
things like a bed, oxygen cylinders and tools necessary for medical
treatments. This robot will have two retractable hands which may help in
keeping the human on a bed inside. It will be accompanied by a doctor robot
for critical cases and on sight treatment. It will be a fast-moving robot. It
will be connected to the AI which is the same as that in POD so that if the
POD finds any harm to the owner it can right away call the ambulance robot
and inform the type of harm that has happened like physical harm by illness or accident.
Along with PODs(personal operating device), Light Fidelity- LiFi which is data transmission via LEDs or
infrared light will also be used. Along with LiFi, LPWAN (Low Powered wide area network) and WI-MAX are
the two modes of communication which also will be established and will operate between 3.2-5 GHz.
Government and office buildings: There will be a separate legislative, executive and judiciary as
governments. Proper elections will take place and Government buildings will include a court, parliament,
police stations, government offices.
