802 - 1 DESCRIPTION - ELECTRICAL HEATING AND VENTILATION SYSTEM 4kW/3+lkW

1. General

The system, c o n t r o l l e d through a switch mounted on t h e overhead.console,


provides cockpit a i r conditioning (4kW c o n f i g u r a t i o n ) and cargo
compartment h e a t i n g (3tlkW c o n f i g u r a t i o n ) ; p r e s e l e c t e d temperatures and
a i r supply a r e maintained a t a constant l e v e l . The h e a t i n g system
o p e r a t e s only when t h e engines a r e running o r an e x t e r n a l power u n i t i s
connected.
Description
The e l e c t r i c a l h e a t i n g and v e n t i l a t i o n system c o n s i s t s of heating,
c i r c u i t p r o t e c t i o n , and c o n t r o l components, t o g e t h e r with an a i r flow
d i s t r i b u t i o n system comprised of f l e x i b l e hoses ( s e e f i g . 802-1 and
802-2) .
3. Operation

NOTE I f t h e rescue h o i s t i s i n s t a l l e d , t h e h e a t i n g and


v e n t i l a t i o n system can only be operated with t h e
h o i s t master switch a t OFF.

a. Heating
S e t t i n g t h e overhead console-mounted switch BLOWER-OFF-HEATING 3HA t o
HEATING a c t i v a t e s t h e a x i a l fan 8HAI which s u p p l i e s t h e d i s t r i b u t i o n
system with e i t h e r f r e s h (outside) a i r o r cabin a i r , depending on t h e
p o s i t i o n of t h e a i r - i n t a k e l e v e r i n t h e ribbed Cover of t h e a i r
intake .
Turning t h e r o t a r y c o n t r o l knob TEMP CONT 5HA on t h e overhead console
clockwise a c t i v a t e s t h e c e n t r a l l y mounted IkW h e a t i n g c a r t r i d g e s 18HA
and 19HA through r e l a y 9HA, and t h e l a t e r a l l y mounted IkW heating
c a r t r i d g e s 20HA and 21HA i n t h e 4kW configuration, through r e l a y l O H A
( s e e f i g . 802-3) .
I n t h e 3tlkW configuration, t h e h e a t i n g c a r t r i d g e 20HA i n t h e 4kW
configuration i s replaced by a h e a t e r blower 22HA which i s c o n t r o l l e d
through t h e a u x i l i a r y c o n t r o l u n i t 31HA by t o g g l e switch CARGO COM
HEATING 30HA l o c a t e d on t h e overhead console. I n t h e ON p o s i t i o n ,
cargo compartment heating i s provided, t h e temperature of which
cannot be r e g u l a t e d ( s e e f i g . 802-4).
The lamps of t h e f o u r - l i g h t annunciator HEATING 7HA l o c a t e d i n t h e
bottom l e f t hand Corner of t h e overhead console, l i g h t up when t h e i r
r e s p e c t i v e h e a t i n g c a r t r i d g e i s energized.

A l l t h e h e a t i n g c a r t r i d g e s a r e p r o t e c t e d a g a i n s t overheating (approx.
63 O C ) by thermal switches. Additional thermal switches i n t h e c e n t e r
heating c a r t r i d g e s i n t e r r u p t t h e power supply a s soon a s t h e a i r flow
temperature exceeds approx. 30 O C .

b. Ventilation
S e t t i n g t h e overhead console-mounted switch BLOWER-OFF-HEATING 3HA t o
BLOWER provides t h e a x i a l fan 8HA with power from t h e main bus PP21,
while c l o s i n g t h e power path t o t h e f o u r h e a t i n g c a r t r i d g e s i n t h e 4kW
configuration ( s e e f i g . 802-3) v i a blocking diodes l l H A and 12HA (See
f i g . 802-3).
With t h e two switch S e t t i n g s of t o g g l e switch CARGO COM HEATING 30HA,
t h e 3tlkW configuration can provide h e a t i n g of t h e cargo compartment.
I n p o s i t i o n ONI t h e h e a t e r blower 22HA o p e r a t e s i n conjunction with
t h e a x i a l fan. I n p o s i t i o n OFFI both cargo compartment heating and
v e n t i l a t i o n a r e shut down (see f i g . 802-4).

802 - 2 TROUBLESHOOTING - ELECTRICAL HEATING AND VENTILATION

General
- Perform troubleshooting with wiring diagrarns 802-1 and 802-2 i n t h e Wiring
Diagram Manual (WDM) .
- I£ rescue h o i s t i s i n s t a l l e d , s e t i t s master switch WINCH t o OFF.
- Check a l l a s s o c i a t e d switches and c i r c u i t breakers f o r unimpaired
mechanical function.
- Check t h a t a l l a s s o c i a t e d e l e c t r i c a l connections a r e t i g h t and secure.
- Troubleshoot using e i t h e r e x t e r n a l o r g e n e r a t o r power only.
- Depress a l l system c i r c u i t breakers:
On instrument panel: 1HA and 2HA
On overhead console: 13HA, 14HA, 15HAI 16HA and 17HA
- Functionally check a l l f o u r heating c a r t r i d g e s by momentarily p r e s s i n g t h e
f o u r - l i g h t annunciator 7HA i n t h e overhead console.

General

1. Inspect a x i a l f a n 8HA f o r e x t e r n a l damage and s e c u r i t y of attachment.


Ensure t h a t bonding jumper connection has a good c o n t a c t .

2. Inspect manifold and elbows f o r s e c u r i t y of attachment; t i g h t e n a t t a c h i n g


hardware a s necessary.

3. Inspect f l e x i b l e hoses between manifold and f l o o r Passage f o r damage and


s e c u r i t y of attachment. Replace damaged hoses and t i g h t e n loose clamps.

4 . Inspect control u n i t 19VE and a s s o c i a t e d wiring harness f o r e x t e r n a l


damage and s e c u r i t y of attachment.
5. Inspect a i r i n t a k e f o r s e c u r i t y of attachment and ensure a i r - i n t a k e l e v e r
functions properly.
6. Inspect f l e x i b l e hoses i n t h e f e e t a r e a f o r chafe marks and breaks, and
replace it necessary. Tighten l o o s e clamps.
7. Inspect heating c a r t r i d g e s and vent nozzles f o r e x t e r n a l damage and
a s s o c i a t e d support brackets f o r s e c u r i t y of attachment.
8. Inspect heater blower 22HA, a u x i l i a r y c o n t r o l u n i t 31HA and wiring harness
f o r e x t e r n a l damage and s e c u r i t y of attachment.

802 -5 FUNCTIONAL CHECK - ELECTRICAL HEATING AND VENTILATION


SYSTEM 4kW/3+lk~

- The system s h a l l be f u n c t i o n a l l y checked not only a t t h e s p e c i f i e d time


i n t e r v a l s but a l s o a f t e r replacement of e l e c t r i c a l components.
- The functional check s h a l l only be performed using an e x t e r n a l power
supply o r with engines running and g e n e r a t o r s operating.
- I f rescue h o i s t i s i n s t a l l e d , s e t h o i s t master switch WINCH t o OFF.
- Depress following c i r c u i t breakers:
On t h e instrument panel: 1HA and 2HA
On t h e overhead console: 13HA, 14HA, 15HA, 16HA and 17HA

1. Functional test - heating
a. Engage e x t e r n a l power supply o r s t a r t engines i n t u r n and a c t i v a t e
both generators.

NOTE I f only one generator i s a c t i v a t e d o r serviceable,


t h e heating system i s designed t o remain OFF.

b. Momentarily press f o u r - l i g h t annunciator: .


S e r v i c e a b i l i t y i s i n d i c a t e d by l i g h t s i l l u m i n a t i n g .

C. Set toggle switch 3HA t o HEATING; t u r n TEMP CONT 5HA f u l l clockwise.

d. Ensure e n t i r e h e a t i n g system i s o p e r a t i n g properly.

2. Functional test - temperature control


a. Close cockpit doors.

b. Set t o g g l e switch 3HA t o HEATING; move a i r - i n t a k e l e v e r t o CABIN A I R ;


t u r n TEMP CONT 5HA f u l l clockwise.

C. Ensure e n t i r e heating system i s o p e r a t i n g properly.

d. Turn TEMP CONT 5HA counterclockwise t o t h e point where t h e cabin


h e a t i n g i s turned o f f ( t h e h e a t e r blower i n t h e cargo conpartment
continues t o operate) .

e. S t a r t t h e cabin h e a t i n g again by t u r n i n g t h e temperature c o n t r o l knob


clockwise. I £ t h e cabin temperature r i s e s above o r f a l l s below t h e
p r e s e l e c t e d temperature, t h e heating system w i l l t u r n o f f o r on
r e s p e c t i v e l y (does not apply t o t h e cargo compartment).
3. Functional t e s t - ventilation
a. Set t o g g l e switch 3HA t o BLOWER.

b. Ensure a x i a l fan 8HA i s o p e r a t i n g properly.

802 - 6 Removal - vent nozzles


1. Side vent nozzles:
Loosen clamp (16, f i g . 802-5) and detach vent nozzle from adapter ( 1 7 ) .
2. Center vent nozzles:

a. Remove screws (27) and washers (26) and detach h e a t i n g c a r t r i d g e f r o n


bracket (25) .

b. Remove screws (24) and remove cover of heating c a r t r i d g e e l e c t r i c a l


terminal box; disconnect e l e c t r i c a l l e a d (13) .
C. Loosen clamp (16) and detach vent nozzle from adapter ( 1 7 ) .

1. Side vent nozzles:


I n s t a l l and a l i g n vent nozzle on adapter and secure w i t h clamp (16,
f i g . 802-5).
2. Center vent nozzles:

a. I n s t a l l vent nozzle on adapter, but do not t i g h t e n clamp (16) a t t h i s


time .
b. Connect e l e c t r i c a l l e a d (13) and secure cover of heating c a r t r i d g e
e l e c t r i c a l terminal box with screws ( 2 4 ) .
C. Secure heating c a r t r i d g e t o bracket (25) with screws (27) and washers
(26); a l i g n vent nozzle on adapter and t i g h t e n clamp (16).

802 - 8 Removal - heating c a r t r i d g e s


1. Side heating c a r t r i d g e :

a. Remove screws (24, f i g . 802-5) and detach cover of heating c a r t r i d g e

b. Loosen clamp ( 2 1 ) ; remove screws (27) and washers (26) and p u l l
heating c a r t r i d g e out of f l e x i b l e hose.
C. Loosen clamp (16) and remove a t t a c h i n g hardware (18, 1 9 and 20) .
Remove assembled vent nozzle and adapter from heating c a r t r i d g e .
2 . Center heating c a r t r i d g e :

a . Loosen clamp (21) ; remove screws (27) and washers (26) and p u l l
heating c a r t r i d g e out of f l e x i b l e hose.
b. Remove screws ( 2 4 ) and detach cover of heating c a r t r i d g e e l e c t r i c a l
terminal box; disconnect e l e c t r i c a l l e a d s (13 and 2 2 ) .
C. Loosen clamp ( 1 6 ) and remove a t t a c h i n g hardware (18, 19 and 20);
remove assembled vent nozzle and adapter from heating c a r t r i d g e .

1. Side h e a t i n g c a r t r i d g e

a. Secure assembled vent nozzle and adapter t o h e a t i n g c a r t r i d g e w i t h


screws (18, f i g . 802-5), washers (19) and n u t s ( 2 0 ) .
b. Secure heating c a r t r i d g e t o bracket (25) with screws (27) and washers
( 2 6 ) . Connect l o o s e end of hose t o h e a t i n g c a r t r i d g e adapter and
secure with clamp ( 2 1 ) .
C. Connect e l e c t r i c a l lead (22) and i n s t a l l cover of heating-cartridge
junction box with screws ( 2 4 ) .

d. Align vent nozzle on adapter and secure with clamp ( 1 6 ) .


e. Perform f u n c t i o n a l check ( r e f e r t o Para 802-5).

2. Center heating c a r t r i d g e
a. Secure assembled vent nozzle and a d a p t e r t o h e a t i n g c a r t r i d g e with
screws (18), washers (19) and n u t s (20) .
b. Connect e l e c t r i c a l leads (13, 22) and i n s t a l l cover of heating
c a r t r i d g e junction box with screws ( 2 4 ) .
C. Secure heating c a r t r i d g e on bracket (25) with screws (27) and washers
( 2 6 ) . Connect l o o s e end of hose t o h e a t i n g c a r t r i d g e adapter and
secure with clamp ( 2 1 ) .
d. Align vent nozzle on adapter and secure with clamp ( 1 6 ) .
e. Perform f u n c t i o n a l check ( r e f e r t o Para 802-5).

802 - 10 Removal - a x i a l fan

NOTE Removal of t h e a x i a l f a n r e q u i r e s p r i o r removal of t h e nose door.

1. Remove screws (8, f i g . 802-5) from support b r a c k e t s (6, 9) and remove


bonding jumper ( 1 0 ) .
2. Withdraw a x i a l fan ( 3 ) .

3. Loosen screws (11) and detach cover of junction box ( 7 ) .

4 . I d e n t i f y e l e c t r i c a l wiring t o a i d reconnecting and disconnect


e l e c t r i c a l wiring from junction box.

NOTE Arrow on a x i a l f a n housing p o i n t s l e f t .

1. Connect e l e c t r i c a l wiring t o junction box (7, f i g . 802-5).

2 . I n s t a l l cover of junction box with screws (11).

3. F i t a x i a l f a n (3) between support brackets (6 and 9 ) . I n s t a l l manifold and


elbow mounting flange on support brackets (6 and 9) r e s p e c t i v e l y with
screws .
4 . I n s t a l l bonding jurnper ( 1 0 ) .
5. Perform f u n c t i o n a l check ( r e f e r t o para 802-5).

802 - 12 Replacement - carbon brushes ( a x i a l f a n )


1. Remove a x i a l f a n ( r e f e r t o para 802-10).

2. Remove screw (35, f i g . 802-5) and remove cover ( 3 6 ) .


3. Remove screws (37) and washers (38) and remove carbon brushes (39) from
t h e holders .
4 . I n s e r t carbon brushes i n t h e holders and secure with screws and washers.

5. F i t cover and secure with screw.


6. Connect a x i a l fan t o 28 VDC supply and t o ground.

NOTE If using new unlapped carbon brushes, t h e a x i a l fan


must be operated f o r 12 hours i n order t o l a p them.

7. I n s t a l l a x i a l fan ( r e f e r t o para 802-11).

802 - 13 Removal - control unit
1. I d e n t i f y e l e c t r i c a l w i r i n g t o a i d reconnection and disconnect from c o n t r o l
u n i t (12, f i g . 802-5) ; disconnect bonding jumper.

2. Remove screws (5) and withdraw c o n t r o l u n i t .

802 - 14 Installation - control unit


1. I n s t a l l c o n t r o l u n i t (12, f i g . 802-5) with screws ( 5 ) .

2. Connect e l e c t r i c a l wiring and bonding jumper.


3. Perform f u n c t i o n a l check ( r e f e r t o para 802-5).

802 - 15 Replacement - f l e x i b l e hoses

1. Loosen a l l clamps and c a r e f u l l y withdraw o l d f l e x i b l e hose.

2 . Route new hose through t h e f l o o r panel from below and a t t a c h t o heating


c a r t r i d g e hose adapter with clamp.
3. S l i d e clamps onto f r e e end of hose, p o s i t i o n hose a s i n s t r u c t e d , and
t i g h t e n clamps.

CAUTION TAKE CARE THAT THERE IS NO INTERFERENCE WITH THE


BELLCRANK OF THE RUDDER CONTROLS.

802 - 16 Removal - h e a t e r blower


1. Remove screws (30, f i g . 802-5) and washers (31) and remove h e a t e r blower
from bracket (32) .
2. Remove junction box Cover.
3. Disconnect e l e c t r i c a l wiring.

802 - 17 Installation - heater blower
1. Connect e l e c t r i c a l wiring.

2. Attach junction box Cover.


3. P o s i t i o n h e a t e r blower (29, f i g . 802-5) i n bracket (32) and secure with
screws (30) and washers ( 3 1 ) .
4 . Perform f u n c t i o n a l check ( s e e Para 802-5).

802 - 18 Removal - auxiliary control unit

1. Open and secure r e a r clamshell doors.

2. Remove f a i r i n g from t h e canted frame on t h e a f t r i g h t hand s i d e of t h e


h e l i c o p t e r . The a u x i l i a r y c o n t r o l u n i t (33, f i g . 802-5) i s a t t a c h e d t o t h e
forward s i d e of t h e canted frame.
3. Remove e l e c t r i c a l connector (34) .
4 . Remove screws (28) and withdraw a u x i l i a r y c o n t r o l u n i t .

802 - 19 Installation - auxiliary control unit


1. I n s t a l l a u x i l i a r y c o n t r o l u n i t (33, f i g . 802-5) t o canted frame with
screws (28) .
