Copy of Growth Experiment

The document outlines a growth experiment focused on testing the effects of water on plant growth using the scientific method. It includes steps for formulating a research question, conducting background research, writing a hypothesis, performing the experiment, collecting data, and presenting findings. Key elements include controlling variables, measuring growth, and graphing results for a class display.

Growth Experiment

Your goal is to create an experiment which tests one or more of the many growth factors that
affect plant growth. You will use the scientific method to guide your research and share your
findings with the class as a stand alone plant science display. The following outline will guide
you through the process. The following information will be included on your presentation

1. What is your question

a. What do you want to test?
Water
b. Make sure your question can be measured and
tested
2. Explain your background research or knowledge
a. Before and after you conduct your experiment or create a hypothesis find some
background information on your growth factor.
my hypothesis was that too much water and too little water will be harmful for
the plant
b. You want to be educated on your growth factor before you start an experiment.
Use class notes to put some facts here
too much water can cause root rot and too little growth will cause root rot
3. Write your hypothesis
a. Be sure you state a guess that can be tested and relevant to class. Please include
the plant life function(s) that are being affected
We believe that if we change how much water it gets over time than the process of Xylum and
Pholum will become unmatched and hurt the plants because the water would be too much or
too little than the nutrients
4. Conduct your experiment
a. Be sure to change only one factor at a time and keep the rest as close to the same
as possible.
b. You should have a control and three changes to the environment. Plant at least 3
seeds per pot
5. Collect Data and Analyze your results

6. Present your findings
a. You will compile all this information, organize it, and put it on a stand alone
poster.
b. Be sure to graph your results. You should have a germination and growth graph
c. You may add additional research, photos, information or variables.
