TITLE OF ACTIVITY: LIGHT
ASPECT THAT STRUCK ME AS IMPORTANT
To introduce the lesson, I presented the students with a few selected materials and aids which
I deemed to be helpful in teaching about light. One of the students asked if we were starting a
new topic based on the materials I brought. This brought forth the attention of the rest of the
class because they all looked curious as to what I had brought with me. I presented the
students with the materials and proceeded to begin the lesson.
TEACHERS’ AND STUDENTS’ FEELINGS
I was pleased with how I managed to capture the attention of the class just by bringing
teaching aids to class. I was optimistic and hopeful that I will have a great lesson. The
students were very curious to start the lesson because they started asking informed questions
before teaching began.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE INCIDENT
This incident was a perfect example of the impact of having teaching aids in class. Different
studies encourage the use of teaching aids in class and finally I got to witness the concept for
myself. The students also seemed eager and quite interested to get the lesson underway.
WHAT CAUSED THE OBSERVED INCIDENT?
Students learn better through doing experiments and having informative teaching aids. This
theory worked out well for both me and the students because I got to capture the undivided
attention of the students and the students accommodated and assimilated information more
appropriately because they linked the explanations and concepts to the materials and teaching
aids they were given.
WHAT IT MEANS
Bringing teaching aids to class is a very good strategy because they help capture the student’s
attention by getting them curious and eventually attentive in class. The teaching aids are
beneficial for students because they aid in assimilation and accommodation of new concepts
and information.
IMPLICATIONS FOR MY PRACTICUM
The use of materials and teaching aids in class is a purely effective strategy in capturing the
attention of the students and getting them to be curious. This strategy also helps students
assimilate and accommodate new information and concepts whilst at the same time applying
the same concepts to their daily lives.
