Proposed Study: The Negative Effects of Gadget Usage among Grade-11 ABM 5 Senior
High School of Liceo de Cagayan University Main-Campus

1. What is the rationale of your chosen problem?


In today’s generation, technology has become an integral part of our lives. It impacted
the students of Liceo de Cagayan University, our way of living and the way we interact
with each other. Negative effect of these gadgets among the students of Grade 11
ABM 5 of Liceo de Cagayan University Main-Campus can affect their social life.
Gadgets are indeed popular among these days. In the 2019 survey conducted by
Harry Brown there are 7.19 billion gadgets around the world and it outnumbered the
number of people. In order to understand furthermore the negative effects of gadget
usage we conduct this research.

2. Describe the setting where your study is to be conducted.


This study conducted in Liceo de Cagayan University Main-Campus as the site of the
study for practical reason and for taking advantage of the Grade-11 ABM 5 who were
using gadgets as a resource for this research.
3. What are the terms, variables, or concepts that need to be defined, clarified, or
described to you and to your reader?
The negative effects of gadgets in blended learning must be notice in this program and
it created a mess that gave the students of Grade-11 ABM 5 poor academic
performances and educational gaps. Excessive time spent on using gadgets, is an
examples of negative effects on gadget usage which are our independent variable. On
the other hand, the students of ABM 5 as respondents are our dependent variables.

4. Look for related literature that defines the main concepts of your study. Provide at
least three (3) references per concept. Provide a brief description of each.
Reference1: Keeping children away from the bad effects of the gadget overuse by Mong
Jimenez

Description: Allowing them to spend more than two hours a day can impact irreversible
damage such as slow cognitive development and attention deficit, Jimenez (2018).

Reference 2: Technology: The Positive and Negative Effects on Student Achievement by


Jennifer Lyn Flanagan

Description: Researchers have also sought to find the negative impacts on student’s
achievement through the use of technology. Technology has not always been promising
within the classrooms. Technology is a tool that enhance student learning and achievement,
Flanagan (2008).

Reference 3: Smart homes by James Chen


Description: Smart home refers to a simple home system where appliances and equipment
can be operated remotely from anywhere using a smartphone or other networked computer
with internet connections. Devices in a smart home are interconnected through the internet,
allowing the user to remotely monitor functions such as home security access, temperature,
lighting, and a home theater, Chen (2020).

5. Determine the significance of your chosen problem. Research contextual evidence


of its “gravity”. Provide the details (and references) below.
Technology are now indispensable in our daily lives. One of the most dramatic impacts
of using gadgets every night is the decline quality and quantity of sleep. The sleep
chemical melatonin is influenced by the constant glow from screens, Ron (2016). The
students of ABM 5 Liceo de Cagayan University Main-Campus may also be less able
to identify social cues and be less attentive. The students may avoid social interaction
to spend more time using electronic devices or may use the device to avoid social
situations due to social anxiety because of underdeveloped social skills.

6. What is the general objective or overall purpose of the study?


At present, the researchers, as a students, is experiencing negative issues about the
gadget usage. The main objective of the researchers is to know the negative effects of
using gadgets among students especially for those students that have virtual classes.
We conducted this because we experienced the negative effects of using gadgets.
7. After the problem had been solved or the research was conducted, who will be the
main beneficiaries of the research? What direct benefits will they receive from it?

To the students, this study gives them information about the negative effects of
gadget usage in their lives. For them to know their limitations in using gadgets.

To the parents, this study helps the guardian/parents to guide their son/daughter to
be aware of what are the negative effects of gadget usage in their lives.

To the faculty, staffs and administrators, this study helps them to get more
information about the negative effects of gadget usage in order to give the students
less activities that involves with gadgets.

To the future researchers, this study serves as a guide to complete your own
researches.
