What are the objectives of Physical Education and DEFINE EACH base on your OWN
perception or understanding. *
The four objectives of physical education are: firstly, it aids in physical development.
Engaging with physical activities is a key in enhancing our physical health. Performing these
activities can help grow and strengthen our muscles and other physique related development.
Also, doing these activities will improve our control over our body. Secondly, it supports social
development. Sports is a category of physical education which can help in developing our social
interaction skills. Sports often involve several players to complete a team. Thus, in able to win
the game, finding strategies by executing teamwork and leadership requires interaction with
other players, which can help in enhancing and developing our social skills. Thirdly, it guides
emotional development. As we grow up, our physical body changes according to the factors
such as the lifestyle we partake and the environment we live in. These physical developments
influence our emotional development since change in our physique is one of the factors in
boosting or lowering our self-esteem. Hence, performing these activities will improve our mood
and mental health. It will be a helping hand in building our self-confidence and preventing
depression. Lastly, it assists mental development. Health related activities activates and boosts
up the capacity our brain. It aids in improving our memory, analyzing problem solving,
processing of thoughts and mindful decision making.
In my opinion, physical education is more than just a subject that is taught in school. It
encompasses diverse health related lessons which we can apply in our daily living. It also aids
for us to be conscious and well aware on our health. Thus, making it crucial for us to live a
healthy life. Let’s take the physical fitness test (PFT) as an example. This includes performing
different health connected activities to test our capacity. It is divided into five components
which are the: cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility,
and body composition. At the end of the test, we will be able to determine our strengths and
weaknesses in different field of activities. This can further help us to improve ourselves in
areas which need enhancement and attention. One part of the test is identifying our body
mass index (BMI), which is a way to measure our body fat according to height and weight. By
executing this test, we can determine if our height is proportional to our weight. Also, this can
aid in knowing if we have health related problems since it helps us to identify if we are
underweight, healthy, overweight, or obese. In summary, physical education deals and
prioritizes our health which can guide us to maintain a healthy life.
The purposes of physical education program are: firstly, physical activities promote
physical fitness. Performing physical activities aids in maintaining a physically fit and healthy
body. These activities activate our body and brain to develop motor skills and concentration
that is crucial for maintaining the homeostasis inside and outside of our body. Secondly,
playing and joining sport contests enhances communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
We all know that sports can be categorized as solo or group, hence, joining activities that are
sports related can aid in developing our skills in terms of communicating and having strong
connection and relationship with others. Thirdly, it provides health related knowledge. Being
knowledgeable about our health is crucial in making our life more bearable and healthier.
Acquiring information on how to maintain a healthy body can prevent future illnesses that we
might catch if we are negligent in our health. Lastly, it is helpful in cognitive development.
Physical activities improve motor skills which have similar underlying processes to cognitive
skills development.
4. How will you justify the importance of Physical Education Courses in the College level? *
Some would say that physical education courses in college would only add up to the
stress and burden they are carrying from their major courses. But my belief strongly opposes
their point of view. I do believe that taking physical education courses is significant even if we
are already pursuing our vocation in life. Having this as one of our subjects can help us
balance and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Since it mainly focuses in our health, we can say
that, this can be a helping hand in being well aware in the happenings inside our body.
Tackling health related topics aid in enhancing our self-discipline. Being knowledgeable
enough on things that can bring risks in our health can prevent sickness or danger that we
might suffer in the future. Also, performing physical activities promotes the development of
self-confidence. In the physical education subject that we had before, I noticed that every time
we are done executing physical exercises, I would always feel good about myself. It assisted
me in developing the positive body image I acquire today. Moreover, it alleviates stress and
anxiety. Pressure is undeniable in college since the education is higher than what we
encountered when we are still high school. Thus, being physically active is helpful in the
reason of: it supports in stimulating and boosting our brain capacity. To sum up, taking up
physical education course is undoubtedly important for our health not just because it’s a
requirement that we should take accountable to. Always remember that it’s our foundation in
reaching the triumphant that we wanted to achieve and prove in life.
My expectations in this subject are: firstly, I will able to further understand the broad concept
of physical education. I am expecting that my current knowledge about this subject will be
expanded and strengthened with the lessons that will be tackled. Secondly, my awareness
about my health will be heightened. As an individual who is taking up medical course, I will be
honest that my perception and understanding about my health is insufficient. Thus, taking up
this subject will be a helping for me to be knowledgeable and conscious enough about my body
health. Thirdly, my physical skills and health will improve. I am aware that in this subject, we will
be encountering physical activities which will be performed and executed by us, students. I’m
expecting that learning it accurately and adapting it to my everyday life will enhance my health.
Fourthly, my love for physical education will be nurtured. I may not be gifted when it comes to
physical related activities since I prefer to just stay in a corner and read a book, I do believe that
this subject will be a helping hand for me to come out from my comfort zone and appreciate
physical education even more. Lastly, I am expecting that this subject will be fun and exciting
but in a way that we will still learn and be knowledgeable enough. I believe that in this subject, I
will be learning with a twist of fun since my first impression in you, ma’am is that you are a jolly
person. Also, I’m looking forward that we will have a good student-professor relationship.
