3. Write some additional propagation effects.
4. Write short notes on multipath propagation.

Part-B
1. What is signal propagation? Explain about different propagation.
3. Differentiate 2G and 3G technology?
4. Explore the Limitations of conventional mobile telephone systems.
5. What is wireless communication? List down its advantages.
6. Illustrate 2G technology architecture in detail with suitable diagram.
7. What are examples of wireless and mobile communication? Explain paging system in detail?
8. Explain the working of cordless phone system in wireless and mobile communication system.

10. Compare the 1G,2 G ,3G ,4G and 5G technology.
11. Node A want to communicate with Node B located at different geographical location. Model
the call initiation and call termination steps in GSM.

Unit II

1. What are different frequency channels used in GSM system? Explain working of frequency
channels.
2. Which frame stature used in GSM system with different bursts formats.
3. Interpret the significance of an umbrella cell approach? Explain in details with neat diagram.
4. Show that the frequency reuse concept for a cellular system is given by k/S, where k is the
average number of channels per cell and S is the total number of channels available to the
cellular service provider.
5. If a total no. of 33MHz Bandwidth is allocated to a particular FDD cellular telephone system
which uses two 25KHz simplex channels to provide full duplex voice channel & control
channels compute the number of channels available per cell if a system uses : (a)four cell reuse
(b)Seven cell reuse (c)12-cell reuse.
6. Explain how do channel interference occur & how are they minimized.

7. List out the efficient techniques that provide significant improve coverage & capacity of
cellular system. Explain detail each one.

8. Discuss the various channel assignment strategies used in mobile communication.

9. Prove that for a Hexagonal cell Geometry the co-channel reuse ratio is given by Q= √3N.
10. What is mean by handoff initiation? Explain the different methods of handoff initiation with
suitable diagrams.

11. The coverage area of a cellular system is 2000 sq.km. with each cell having a radius 5km and
there are a total of 1000 radio channels available for handling the traffic, (a)Calculate the system
capacity for 7 –cell reuse (b)If N=4, how many times the cluster has to be replicated in order to
approximately cover the entire cellular area? Calculate the system capacity for handling the
traffic. (c)Does decreasing the cluster size increase the system capacity? Explain.

Explain.

13. For given path loss exponent (a) n=4 and (b) n=3, find the frequency reuse factor and the
cluster size that should be used for maximum capacity. The signal to interference ratio of 15dB is
minimum required for satisfactory forward channel performance of a cellular system. There are
six co-channels cells in the first tier and all of them are at the same distance from the mobile. Use
suitable approximations.

14. Compare omni and sectorized cells for seven cell system in fixed channel assignment.

15. Determine the signal to co-channel interference ratio at the mobile receiver located at the
boundary of its omnidirectional operating cell ,under the influence of interfering signals from six
co-channel interfering cells in the first tier in a cellular system designed with i) N=4 and ii) N=7.
Assume path loss exponent is 4.
