The document outlines the welding procedure for API 5 L Gr. B pipes with thicknesses of 40 mm and 50 mm, detailing surface preparation, electrode usage, preheating temperatures, and electrode baking requirements. It emphasizes the importance of root welding, defect testing, and multiple pass welding techniques, along with necessary cleaning and non-destructive testing (NDT) procedures. Post heating is not required for this process.

1. Baking of low hydrogen
electrode is mandatory; Baking of rutile type electrode is non-mandatory. Refer to manufacturer recommendation (available in packet) for baking requirements. 2. For low hydrogen electrodes, the Electrode Baking electrode to be baked at 300oC for 1 hour. 3. Procedure Followed by it shall be maintained at 100o C in mother oven or portable oven. 4. In any case, Manufacturers recommendation shall be followed Note: Please refer to maufacturers recommendation available in the electrode box/ carton/ contact manufacturer
1.1 Root welding shall be
Procedure During Welding carried out with the minimum dia electrode that is available.
2.1 After completion of
root welding, the surface of the root shall be grinded and tested with Dye Penet 3.1 After ensuring there is no defect in the root, further welding shall be carried out.
4.1 The other side of the
root shall be grinded and tested with Dye pentrant testing for any defects.
5.1 After ensuring there is
no defect in the root, welding shall be carried out as required.
6.1 It is always recommended to weld the joint I multiple passes. Weaving shall be done to max of 2.5 ti
7.1 Cleaning shall be
carried after every pass.
8.1 After completion of
welding, the surface shall be covered with heat resistant cloth.
9.1 Appropriate NDT
technique shall be carried out to establish the soundness of the weld.
