General Instructions:
i. This question paper consists of 39 questions in 5 sections.
ii. All questions are compulsory. However, an internal choice is
provided in some questions. A student is expected to attempt only
one of these questions.
iii. Section A consists of 20 objective type questions carrying 1
mark each.
iv. Section B consists of 6 Very Short questions carrying 02 marks
each. Answers to these questions should in the range of 30 to 50
words.
v. Section C consists of 7 Short Answer type questions carrying 03
marks each. Answers to these questions should in the range of 50 to
80 words
vi. Section D consists of 3 Long Answer type questions carrying 05
marks each. Answer to these questions should be in the range of 80
to 120 words.
vii. Section E consists of 3 source-based/case-based units of
assessment of 04 marks each with sub-parts.

(ii) She keeps a book at a distance 10 cm from her eyes and tries to
read. She is unable to read. What is the reason for this?
(b) Ravi kept a book at a distance of 10 cm from the eyes of his
friend Hari. Hari is not able to read anything written in the book.
Give reasons for this?

Q28 Metal X is found in nature as its sulphide XS. It is used in the


galvanisation of iron articles. Identify the metal X. How will you
convert this sulphide ore into the metal? Explain with equations.

(ii) Find the resistance if all of these parts are connected in:
(a) Parallel
(b) Series
(iii) Out of the combinations of resistors mentioned above in the
previous part, for a given voltage which combination will consume
more power and why?

fertilization and where does it take place in human females ?
(b) Surgical methods can be used to create a block in the
reproductive system for contraceptive purposes. Name such parts
where blocks are created in Males and Females.
(c) Prenatal sex determination has been prohibited by law. State
reasons.
(d) What is placenta? State its role during pregnancy.

SECTION - E

Q.no. 37 to 39 are case - based/data -based questions with 2


to 3 short sub - parts. Internal choice is provided in one of
these sub-parts.

Q37 A solenoid is long helical coil of wire through which a current is


run in order to create a magnetic field. The magnetic field of the
solenoid is the superposition of the field due to the current through
each coil. It is nearly uniform inside the solenoid and close to zero
outside and is similar to the field of a bar magnet having a north
pole at one end and a south pole at the other depending upon the
direction of current flow. The magnetic field produced in the
solenoid is dependent on a few factors such as, the current in the
coil, number of turns per unit length etc.
(a) What decides the direction of magnetic field by a current
carrying solenoid? (1 mark)
(b) How can we compare a current carrying solenoid with a bar
magnet? (1 mark)
(c)How can we increase the strength of the magnetic field produced
by a current carrying solenoid? (2 Mark)

How can we make an electromagnet with the help of a solenoid?

Q38 Sahil performed an experiment to study the inheritance pattern


of genes. He crossed tall pea plants (TT) with short pea plants (tt)
and obtained all tall plants in F1 generation.

(a)What will be set of genes present in the F1 generation? (1 Mark)


(b)Give reason why only tall plants are observed in F1 progeny. (1
Mark)
(c)When F1 plants were self - pollinated, a total of 800 plants were
produced. How many of these would be tall, medium height or short
plants? Give the genotype of F 2 generation. (2 Marks)

When F1 plants were cross - pollinated with plants having tt genes,


a total of 800 plants were produced. How many of these would be
tall, medium height or short plants? Give the genotype of F2
generation.

Q39 Two students decided to investigate the effect of water and air
on iron object under identical experimental conditions. They
measured the mass of each object before placing it partially
immersed in 10 ml of water. After a few days, the object were
removed, dried and their masses were measured. The table shows
their results.
(a) What might be the reason for the varied observations of the two
students?
(b) In another set up the students coated iron nails with zinc metal
and noted that, iron nails coated with zinc prevents rusting. They
also observed that zinc initially acts as a physical barrier, but an
extra advantage of using zinc is that it continues to prevent rusting
even if the layer of zinc is damaged. Name this process of rust
prevention and give any two other methods to prevent rusting.
