Important Notes for Your Stay

Please don't feed the bears! When you do, it teaches them to come around
humans in search of more food… And as you can imagine bears and humans
don't usually play well together! Dolly and her cubs have been known to
walk on the front porch and look for food, so be sure to keep any out of your
car and safe inside.

It’s my goal that you have a “FIVE STAR” stay, so if you see ANYTHING that
needs to be addressed, just reach out through the site and let me know.

The closest liquor stores are located in Gatlinburg, which is a short drive
away. Be prepared to spend a bit more than you do at home as prices are a
little higher here. If you're just looking for wine, most grocery stores will
carry a few varieties.

Unfortunately, Uber/Lyft/Favor and all those other cool apps that we use in
the city aren't really present here in the Smoky Mountains. The good news is
that all the restaurants and shops are super close to us so you can easily
swing by and pick up what you need.

Recently Grubhub and Doordash started supporting the area, so give that a

Great Smoky Mountains National Park
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park
(note that it is spelled Smoky without the e) is
the most visited national park in the United
States. It boasts a whopping 9+ million visitors
a year. It may lack the iconic grandeur of more
famous parks like Yellowstone or the Grand
Canyon, but its beautiful mist-crowned peaks
and lush, thick forest make it a natural wonder
with few equals. It also benefits from being
very road-accessible, and housing native
wildlife ranging from wild turkeys to bears.

Its accessibility is definitely a contributing

factor to its popularity, with two-thirds of the
American population living within a two-day
drive. It’s also the only free national park,
which significantly helps its popularity!

Most visitors make their way here in the summer months and towards the fall when Historic structures ranging from log cabins to churches have

love to walk and hike along its winding mountain paths amid forested mountains.
Here you can soak up the greenery and foliage as well as enjoy the sights and

and plentiful walking and hiking trails, it remains almost totally unspoiled. This is

Local Area Visitor Guide
Whether you’re looking for a quiet family retreat, a romantic getaway, or
some outdoor action and adventure, the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area has
what you’re looking for. You can immerse yourself in history, beautiful
scenery, or indulge in all of the attractions that the area has to offer. Or why
not do it all?

Originally settled by a handful of families in the 1780s, Sevier County has

remained a largely rural area that retains its unique charm and natural beauty
into today. Its three main cities/towns are the county seat of Sevierville,
Gatlinburg, and the popular city of Pigeon Forge. All of these have stayed true
to their roots and you’ll find the townspeople to be incredibly welcoming.
Southern hospitality at its finest!

Before the arrival of the white settlers in the late 1600s, the Cherokee tribe
called the area home. Here they enjoyed the abundance of wildlife game,
fishing, fertile soils, and of course the breathtaking views. The ongoing
conflicts between the two lasted until the last Native Americans were Popcorn Sutton Distilling was founded by James Grosser and is named

this time (and they were!) but there were a few that stood out. Marvin
“Popcorn” Sutton was one of those names and people came to both trust and
love his brand. So, if you’ve ever wondered what moonshine tastes like and
where it originated from, this area was the genesis. And there are plenty of
samples to go around!

Speaking of celebrations and libations, Sevier County has been quietly making
a name for itself as the “Wedding Capital of the South”, claiming to have the
nation’s largest number of marriages after Las Vegas, albeit for different
reasons. The requirements here (financial or otherwise) are minimal, and this
area offers affordable accommodations, easy access, and stunning natural
scenery that really is second-to-none. Either way, it’s quickly rising to the top
as one of the most sought-after areas for couples looking to tie the knot.
Gatlinburg
For a tiny town in east Tennessee, Gatlinburg has a lot more to offer than you
might expect beyond the beautiful scenery and untouched woodlands of the
park.
It was historically a plentiful Native American hunting ground, with the Cherokee
and their predecessors enjoying the abundant game in the area. The Ogle,
Huskey, and McCarter families first settled the area in the early 1800s. The first
log cabin in what is now Gatlinburg is still there, known simply as the Ogle Cabin
and is a “must see”.
The area soon became a bustling logging center, but in the early 20th century
conservationists became concerned after seeing the extent of logging in other
parts of the southeastern United States. Wanting to protect the area led
conservationists to consider the idea of creating a new national park like
Yellowstone or Yosemite. Shortly after, the Smoky Mountain National Park was
born and it remains as a major factor in drawing visitors to Gatlinburg.
Like all of Sevier County, Gatlinburg is an ideal spot for family getaways. For
starters, Ober Gatlinburg is Tennessee’s only combined ski resort and
amusement park. Want an aquarium, waterpark, zipline, and a museum? You’ll
find all of this and more in Gatlinburg. And just to make things easier, here is a
list of some of the most popular places to visit:

• Dollywood (of course!)

• Famous Moonshine & Wine Tour
• Titanic Museum Attraction
• Mountaintop Zipline
• Top Jump Trampoline & Extreme Arena
• The Escape Game (Escape Room)
Sugarlands Distilling Company
This barn-style distillery can be found in downtown Gatlinburg. Not
only can you get a taste of some authentic moonshine recipes, but
their menu offers other interesting drinks as well. Either way, you’ll
get a delicious taste of the past!

For the history buffs out there, you can take you a tour of the
distillery where you’ll be given a first-hand look at how these
authentic Sugarlands spirits are made. And to top it all off, their
Back Porch hosts free shows for guests of all ages. If you’re looking
for something for the adults to enjoy without leaving the kiddos
out, then this is a great attraction to visit.

Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies

A trip to Gatlinburg does not just have to be about the Smoky

Mountains and its iconic scenery (although it is definitely not to
be missed). At Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies you can take the
whole family for a trip to see the denizens of the deep.

Whether you want to see exotic coral reefs, majestic sharks, or

intriguing rays (that you can also touch), you will find everything
you want here. This attraction is perfect for all ages and family
types. Whether you’re single or want to entertain your kids, the
aquarium is a great spot to visit.
Paul Murray Gallery
Award-winning artist Paul Murray tells his stories of 1800s Tennessee in
this mountain farm location. From wood paintings, sketches, and
landscape photography to wood crafts and wildlife art this 200-year-old
mountain homestead comes alive with the spirit of the Smokies. After
getting your fill of the artwork, you can enjoy the rustic farm complete
with original buildings and fencing as well as the gorgeous scenery.
Children can also enjoy the coloring area.

For photographers, the Paul Murray Gallery is one of the most

photographed locations around so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to
capture some truly gorgeous shots!

Ole Smoky Moonshine Distilleries

This chain of Tennessee distilleries has not one, but two locations in
Gatlinburg. The first is called “The Holler”, which they claim is the most
visited distillery in America. This distillery is also still producing all of
their signature flavors so if you want a true taste of the past, stop by!
“The Barrelhouse” is their other Gatlinburg branch where you can taste
their Ole Smoky Whiskey.

The drink is a White Oak Barrel aged whiskey, which is described as a

“true authentic American experience”. Grab a whiskey, kick back, and
enjoy the old-timey setup that the Ole Smoky Moonshine Distilleries
have to offer.
The Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook
Sometimes simplicity is what it is all about. Located on the Gatlinburg
bypass between Gatlinburg Spur and the Great Smoky Mountains
National Park, this spot has a lot to offer. There are four parking areas
for starters so even if you’re visiting during peak season, you won’t
have to worry about finding a parking spot. And trust us- even if you
have to venture around for a bit, it’s worth it. The overlook offers
visitors a uniquely mesmerizing view of the whole town and its
mountain backdrop. Be sure to bring your camera along for some
once-in-a-lifetime shots!

Insider tip: The second and third parking areas come especially highly
recommended in terms of the view. If you’re looking to make the most
of your visit, beeline for these parking zones.

“The Captured” Room Escape Game

If you are in the mood for some thrills and mind games, pay a visit to “The Captured”,
which is right by the Gatlinburg Space Needle (featured below). This is arguably
Gatlinburg’s most popular live escape game experience and for good reason.

If you’ve done an escape room before, this will feel familiar. Your group is locked in a
room that can only be escaped by searching for clues and solving puzzles. Every bit of
your wits will be needed, along with some good old-fashioned teamwork if you want
to avoid being permanently captured! Well, not really. If you haven’t solved
everything in an hour, they’ll let you out.

You can also choose between two different experiences: Chapter 1: The Cellar and
Chapter 2: Scarlett’s Room. You can see previews and read more about the rooms
here: https://thecaptured.com/
The Gatlinburg Sky Lift
Recently, Gatlinburg’s very own sky lift just received an entirely new chairlift,
making the already great experience that much better.

The Gatlinburg Sky Lift stands a staggering 1,800 feet high and is nestled at
the top of the nearby Crockett Mountain. The lift is guaranteed to give you
one of the best views in the area. The verdant woods and majestic mountain
peaks will great you in all their natural splendor. You’ll have uninterrupted
panoramic views of Gatlinburg and its picturesque mountain-scape. Make
sure that you pack your camera before stepping onto the lift!

Rowdy Bear Mountain

Billed as Gatlinburg’s number one mountain coaster, Rowdy Bear Mountain
can lay claim to having the first ever mountain glider in the world. This single-
rail coaster is part free-fall, part hang-glider, and is all fun. And for those of
you that are skeptical, don’t be! It’s perfectly safe.

Their other ride is the Gravity Coaster, which takes you on a winding journey
through the woods at speeds of 35 mph. Better yet, you get to control the
speed, while the Intelligent Distance Control System ensures that you and
the other guests have a safe, enjoyable time. Whether you have a need for
speed or want to take it slower and enjoy the views, the Gravity Coaster can
accommodate any rider’s desire.

Insider tip: A Go-Pro provides some really memorable video captures on the
Gravity Coaster!
Historic Ogle Log Cabin
Back in 1807, this was the only cabin in Gatlinburg. It was also the first
ever log home built in the town. The name originates from William Ogle
who travelled from South Carolina to the Smokies and began building the
cabin there to host his family.

Sadly, William Ogle passed away before he could finish the cabin.
However, the story doesn’t end there. His wife, Martha Jane Huskey
Ogle, moved to the area in 1807 with her seven children and completed
the cabin without him.

The cabin remained here for over 200 years before it was moved to the
Gatlinburg Welcome Center. This was done in an effort to preserve the
cabin and also give tourists a chance to see what life was like back in
1807.

Gatlinburg Trail
This trail through the Great Smoky Mountains is one of only two where you can
take your pets and bicycles. There is pathing available for bikes and the wildlife is
pretty tame so Rover can tag along without too many worries. This isn’t to say that
your pet (or you for that matter) are free to wander off by yourselves, you’ll want
to stick to the trails.

The trail starts at the Sugarlands Visitor Center and stretches on for 1.9 miles into
Gatlinburg itself. You’ll travel along a path that snakes beside the Little Pigeon
River and will take you across a footbridge as well as passed several old home site
chimneys and foundations.

Gatlinburg Space Needle

Chances are you’ve heard of the Seattle Space Needle,

but have you heard about Gatlinburg’s?
Gatlinburg boasts its own version of Seattle’s Space
Needle and if you’re looking for a truly panoramic view
of the Smokies and its scenery as well as Gatlinburg and
other surrounding mountainsides, then the Gatlinburg
Space Needle is a must-visit.
Standing at an impressive 407 feet high, you can take
one of the 20-person glass elevators to the top where
you can use their free viewfinders. It’s not as high as
Seattle’s Space Needle, which stretches 605 feet into
the air, but we promise the view is way better.
You can also find Higher Learning exhibits at the space
needle that will tell you all about the history of
Gatlinburg and the area.
For those that are afraid of heights, you can still enjoy
the atmosphere and appreciate the architecture from
the ground floor. However, we highly recommend
making it to the top. The area is spacious and you won’t
be pressed right against the windows so you can limit
how much of the height you’re experiencing.
Hollywood Star Cars Museum
Car lovers and movie buffs alike will love a trip to
the Hollywood Star Cars Museum in Gatlinburg.
The museum features over 40 authentic cars from
Hollywood’s movies and TV shows. The cars are
lovingly maintained and set to recreated settings
that include sound, lights, and action. You’ll really
feel as if you’ve stepped back into the past or onto
a Hollywood movie set.
Among the cars you can expect to see are the
Drag-U-La from The Munsters (1965), the 1969
Camaro SS from Charlie’s Angels (2000), and the
iconic DeLorean from Back to the Future. The
museum is also home to Dolly Parton’s very own
1997 Cadillac D’Elegance, and a 1955 Ford
Thunderbird that belonged to Dennis Wilson of the
Beach Boys. And of course, these are just a few of
the dozens of cars that museum boasts to be seen.
According to the museum’s website, many of the
cars were created by George Barris who has
arguably created more famous cars that have
graced the big screen than anyone else. His most
famous being the Batmobile from the 1966 Batman
TV show.
If you’re looking for something that has a lot of
“return value”, then this is the place to go. The cars
change out pretty frequently with favorites staying
so there’s always something new (and old) to see!
Pigeon Forge
Pigeon Forge gets its name from an iron forge built near
the Little Pigeon River around 1820. (Which is near the
delicious Old Mill restaurant that you should definitely
make a stop at.) However, there’s a neat little quirk
behind the name: the river after which it is named was
known for having a vast number of passenger pigeons
(now extinct) that frequently traveled through the valley.
Unsurprisingly, the congregation of birds led locals to
name the river after them.

The Old Mill itself predates the forge by around 30 years

and has been maintained ever since. If you’re into pioneer
history it is a must-see. And speaking of history, in 1940
Franklin D. Roosevelt rode through Pigeon Forge to
dedicate the new Smoky Mountain National Park.

One of the most famous people to come from Sevier

County is Dolly Parton, and in Pigeon Forge you will find
the Dollywood amusement and waterpark, which is partly
owned by the singer. Dollywood definitely has something
for everyone and has been consistently praised as being
very family-oriented and friendly.

Below is our list of some of the most popular places to pay a

visit to when you’re in Pigeon Forge:
The Pigeon Forge Snow theme park
Regardless of what time of year you visit, you can enjoy indoor snow
tubing in real snow. But only if you visit the Pigeon Forge Snow
theme park! In addition to the hillside’s worth of snowy slopes, there
is a huge snow play area that all age groups can take advantage of.
So if you’re looking to break up the summer heat, why not start a
snowball war with your loved ones?
As an added bonus, you don’t need a reservation so you can easily
wiggle in a visit when you’ve got some unexpected downtime. The
park is great too because you can spend as little as 30 minutes to
upwards of a few hours enjoying all the park has to offer, so
regardless of your free time slots you can fit this place in easily.

Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine

Sevier County will never lack for providers of legal moonshine, and
the Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine distillery in Pigeon Forge is
one of the best places to visit for a taste of history. This distillery,
which is the second one the company opened, is located in The
Island in the middle of Pigeon Forge. Its location makes it a great
atmosphere and attraction for families with plenty of places to eat,
shop, and relax all around.
The distillery still makes its moonshine in-house, and visitors can see
the process for themselves. They also feature daily live bluegrass
performances and of course the option to take home some
authentic moonshine from their store is also available. If you want
to take home a jar or three (no judgments), you’re welcome to do
so.
Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster
Did you know that Pigeon Forge is home to the longest downhill ride in the United
States? Well, if you didn’t, now you do!
With over a mile of track that spans through the Smokies, this is one of our biggest
suggestions as far as must-dos are concerned when visiting Pigeon Forge. Like the
coaster in Gatlinburg, passengers can control the speed at which they go along the
track, allowing you to soak in the views at your own pace.
Kids can also enjoy the track riding alongside a parent so you don’t have to worry
about your little ones being by themselves!

Outdoor Gravity Park

Pigeon Forge’s Outdoor Gravity Park is a great place to visit that offers fun
and laughs for the entire family the whole way through. Enter one of their
giant plastic spheres (think hamster or guinea pig style) and roll yourself
down a 1000-foot hill. You can try to stay on your feet, rolling down like a
human hamster or you can let the ball do the work and bounce along. It’s
soft enough to prevent injuries but you should still be cautious if more
than one of you is occupying the ball.
The spheres can house up to three people so the whole family can join in!
Or if having space is your thing, there’s plenty of room for just you inside.
As an added bonus, 10 gallons of water are present inside the spheres
during the summer so you can cool off. Swimsuits are a must though if
you’re looking to make a rolling splash.
Titanic Museum Attraction
Pigeon Forge’s Titanic museum attraction is the world’s largest,
allowing visitors to get a feel for what the Titanic was really like in
its final days and hours. It’s a chilling step into the past that history
buffs and people of all ages will truly appreciate.
The museum not only features iconic parts of the ship such as the
Grand Staircase (perfectly replicated), but there are also 400
artifacts valued at over $4.5 million on display. These items hailed
directly from the ship.
You will be issued with a boarding pass that once belonged to a real
passenger on the ship taking you a step backwards in time.

Mountain Valley winery

If you want a taste of old-world wine in the gorgeous new-world scenery of
the Smokies, then look no further than Pigeon Forge’s Mountain Valley
winery.
Free tastings and tours are available making this one a very attractive
option for filling out part of the day. In the fall, you can also watch them as
they crush grapes for their wines and bottle them. So, if wine is your thing
and you want to learn all about it, make sure you plan a visit to the winery
during the fall!
Their focus may be on French and German-style wines, but they also have
a great selection of others to suit every taste.
Patriot Park
Patriot Park is a family favorite in Pigeon Forge and is dedicated to
veterans from Sevier County. The track takes you along the banks of
the Little Pigeon River, where you can also see flags from every US
state as well as the branches of the armed forces. It derives its name
from a Patriot missile located in the center of the park. This iconic
piece of history was made famous during the first Gulf War.
Depending on what time of year you’re visiting, you might also catch
the Patriot Festival, Pigeon Forge Rotary Club Crafts Festival, the
Easter Egg Hunt, and more.

Country Tonite Theatre

Country Tonite Theatre is one of those places that offers something for
everyone. You can catch shows that focus on singing and dancing, or if
you’re in the mood to laugh check out one of their comedy specials!
Want to experience the true spirit of the south? Then swing by during
one of their gospel shows.
The theatre has been voted the “show of the year” for well over a
decade, so regardless of what event you catch you’re guaranteed to
love it. They have also received awards for “Best Live Country Show in
America” and “Best Show in the Smokies”.
Old Forge Distillery
Building on a tradition that is more than 200 years old, the Old Forge
Distillery uses the same age-old methods to produce authentic spirits.
They have also specialized in many “newer” spirits like rum, vodka,
and others in addition to their famous Single-Barrel Aged Bourbon.
The location was chosen for its resources; water and grains being
essential to the process. The land was also a perfect home for their
mill. Today, the distillery continues the same practice of stone
grinding grains like their ancestors while pairing the old-fashioned
methods with modern day tricks.
The result? A truly delicious drink that’s not to be missed.

Alcatraz East Crime Museum

This is another one that should be penciled into your itinerary;
especially if you’re a history lover. The Alcatraz East Crime Museum
gives you an in-depth look at the history of crime in America and even
features genuine pieces from Alcatraz itself. Here you can get a peek
at these artifacts while learning about the history behind them as
well.
Its five unique galleries will provide you with insights into forensics,
criminal intent studies, the penal system, and much more with over a
hundred interactive displays. Be sure to check out the white Bronco
made famous by OJ Simpson while you’re there!
Dollywood
Dollywood is one of those absolute must-visit places if you’re staying
anywhere near it. Even if you’re a couple hour drive out, plan a day to see this
beautiful theme park. We promise it’s worth it!
Winner of the 2010 Applause Award, Dollywood spans some 150 acres at the
foothills of the Smokies and includes more than 40 rides and attractions. Like
any theme park, there’s something for everyone as well. There are plenty of
children’s rides and attractions so people of all ages can enjoy the park. If
you’re into thrills, check out some of their adrenaline pumping coasters! If
you’re looking to relax and beat the heat, why not check out their water
rides? There’s plenty to see and do so make sure you plan a full day to check
out the park.
Dollywood has also received numerous trophies and awards for its live
entertainment shows. You can catch everything from historical shows to
comedy to kids’ entertainment and with so many options around the clock,
you can easily wiggle one in during down time. Or plan your lunch around it!
Chowing down on some of the park’s delicious food while watching a show is
the kind of stuff that vacations are made of.
Master craftsmen offer daily demonstrations of the area’s history, and all of
this amid the backdrop of the stunning Smoky Mountain views. Be prepared to
spend a few bucks when you come here (it is a theme park, so it’s just part of
the experience), but guaranteed everyone will have a good time!

Insider tip: Arrive early to beat the lines!

attraction like this would be complete without a chance to feed and pet
the goats.

rollercoaster and petting zoo that features more than just goats. Okay,
maybe you should eat your fill of sugar snacks before you get on the
coaster! Either way, their sweet treats are not to be missed.

Forge so if you’re looking for souvenirs to bring back, check it out.

Sevierville
Sevierville was founded all the way back in 1795 and was
named after John Sevier, the first governor of
Tennessee. It is both the biggest and oldest of Sevier
County’s cities, known for its beautiful old clocktower on
the Sevier County Courthouse and adjacent statue of
Dolly Parton.

At first, Sevierville was little more than a stopping point

for settlers making their way westward to the frontier
but it grew as East Tennessee became more settled. The
combination of its picturesque location (nestled in a
valley at the southern end of the Smokies) and ideal
location, make it both a perfect place to visit and to live.
Because of this, it has earned the affectionate nickname
“Your Hometown in the Smokies”.

Like Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Sevierville maintains

with easy grace that balance of perfectly preserved
nature and history with modern accessibility and
plentiful family fun. And of course, Dolly Parton hails from this small city!
She is well loved by locals for good reason – she says what’s on her mind, Dolly Parton’s Stampede
is funny and sweet and gives back to the local community in a huge way. One place you’ll really want to pay a visit to is the Dolly Parton's Stampede
After the major Gatlinburg fire in 2016 she spearheaded a major dinner attraction. An evening here guarantees you a mouth-watering four-

Here’s our list of a few of the great places to check out in Sevierville. and pyrotechnics, then look no further.
Hillside Winery
While Tennessee is definitely known for its moonshine, you can also
kick back with a glass of wine at the Hillside Winery in Sevierville.
You can check out their Italian style wines while also touring the
venue (for free). The winery also offers free wine tastings so whether
you’re a wine connoisseur or just getting started on your wine
adventure, you’re sure to find something you like! Their
knowledgeable staff can also help you find the right flavor for your
palate.
It may be the second youngest in the area, but it has quickly made a
name for itself. And for good reason! The winery pumps out some
seriously tasty wines and the scenery is truly breathtaking.

Sevier Distilling Company

Another fantastic entry into the great brewing tradition of East Tennessee is
the Sevier Distilling Company. Pass by for a look at how authentic spirits and
moonshine are made. You can also see how they taste as the company offers
plenty of tastings and varieties ready to be sampled.

The Sevier Distilling Company stays true to its roots, using the same
techniques that the original non-native settlers did back in 1790. If you’re
looking for an authentic moonshine and Tennessee spirit experience, then
look no further.

The company also offers tours of its distillery and you’ll be accompanied by a
guide that knows the ins and outs of the process. If you’re interested in both
the history and the taste of moonshine, then this is one place you’ll want to
check out!

Insider tip: The distillery tours can book quickly. Check online to make
sure one’s available when you’re visiting!
Forbidden Caverns
Contrary to the name, the Forbidden Caverns are very much open to
the public! And as long as you and yours are not claustrophobic,
Forbidden Caverns in Sevierville will give you another dose of that
East Tennessee combination of stunning natural beauty and
fascinating history. The caverns contain shimmering rock
formations, a crystal-clear underground stream, and numerous
grottos. And for the history buffs, the guides will tell you all about
how this was a moonshining haven, with an old still that remains
within the caverns to this day.
Insider tip: The caverns are pretty spacious with very few truly tight
fits. As long as you’re okay with being underground and in a
relatively confined space, you’ll be fine.

Smoky Mountain Deer Farm & Exotic Petting Zoo

A family favorite in the area, the Smoky Mountain Deer Farm &
Exotic Petting Zoo is tucked away in 143 acres of mountain
property. The scenery is absolutely stunning and it feels as if you’re
visiting the animals in their natural habitat rather than a zoo-style
petting enclosure.
Here you can feed, pet, and pose for selfies with a variety of animals
that include goats, camels, zebras, deer, donkeys, and more. They
have tame fallow deer that you can stroll amongst, and they also
offer horseback excursions for the whole family.
Insider tip: Early morning and evening times are best if you’re
looking to feed the animals. Otherwise, they’re probably going to be
full!
Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum
Another bit of authentic history resides in Sevierville in Floyd
Garrett’s Muscle Car Museum. Collector Floyd Garrett is an
expert on 60s and 70s muscle cars and his collection here is
worth over $8 million. In other words, if you’re a car enthusiast,
make sure that you don’t bypass the chance to visit this place!
You will find plenty of old Dodge and Plymouth muscle cars in
pristine condition that are all begging for a picture. You can also
find information regarding each car and model as well. There are
also some cars on loan from other museums/collections and
these change semi- frequently, so you can always come back and
find something new to see!

The Dolly Parton Statue

Sevier County (and Sevierville) are well known for
all things Dolly Parton. And why wouldn’t they
be? She’s a staple here! Fans of both her and her
music will not want to pass up the chance to visit
the iconic Dolly Parton statue that stands in her
home county.
The bronze statue shows the singer as a young
woman sitting atop a boulder with her guitar
across her lap. You can find it in front of the
Sevier County Courthouse in the heart of
Sevierville.
You’re also welcome to take pictures with the
statue and touch it.
Rainforest Adventures Zoo
Sevierville’s Rainforest Adventures zoo gives you a view into the
tropical forests of the world and features more than 600 animals
from over 130 species. These animals all hail from rainforests across
the world so if you’re ever wanted an up close and personal look at
a denizen from across the world, now’s your chance. Children under
3 years of age get free entry and it’s open every day of the year
except Christmas.
Zoological contractors whose work includes the Animal Kingdom
park at Disney World have also decorated the zoo.

Insider tip: One thing that you definitely want to stick around for is
the live animal show!

The Tennessee Museum of Aviation

Another entry in our long list of must-see museums is the Tennessee
Museum of Aviation. The museum has been a community staple
since 1984 and stands as the second largest air force museum in the
United States. Located in the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Airport in
Sevierville, it showcases everything from trainers and fighters to
helicopters, jets, and amphibious craft.
If you visit you might be in for an additional surprise as they have
unscheduled flight demonstrations all the time! If this is something
you really want to see, you can also give the museum a call to see
when their next demo is. While a lot of these tend to be
unscheduled, the museum personnel typically know when one is
going to occur so don’t be afraid to reach out!
Smoky Mountain River Romp
No family excursion is truly complete without a trip to a theme park. The
River Romp takes you river tubing for two and a half miles, starting from
“The Barn”. The river journey takes around 2 hours and passes through
several rapids. This is a great way to beat the heat of the summer as the
water is pretty cool! It’s also a great way to take in the scenery while kicking
back and relaxing. You can also rent tubes and kayaks so don’t worry about
bringing your own. Drinks as well as coolers are permitted, but glass bottles
are not.
You can float the river as many times as you like if you find that the original 2
hours wasn’t enough. Or if you’ve had your fill of the water, you can take a
break and set up a picnic along the banks. You can also just relax in the
beautiful scenery of the Smokies. There are a few mild torrents but the river
is perfect for all ages.

Foxfire Mountain Swinging Bridge

The Foxfire Mountain Swinging Bridge is the longest of its kind in
the United States and can be found along the hike by Prosperity
Mountain and Lost Mine Falls. The bridge crosses 70 feet above the
Little Pigeon River along the hour-long self-guided tour. In other
words, if you’re not okay with heights then this might not be the
best idea for you! Especially since the swinging bridge does follow
its name and swing gently with winds.
However, if you’re not squeamish around heights or you’re willing
to give it a try, the Foxfire Mountain Swinging Bridge offers some
truly unique views of the landscape. You can see the tops of trees
and peer down into luscious valleys while taking in the panoramic
views all around you. You’re also likely to see a number of wildlife
traversing the area below and around you ranging from birds to
deer and more.
Honorable Mentions and other Hidden Gems
With so much to see, do, learn, explore, and experience it can be
difficult (if not impossible) to compile a fully comprehensive list. And
if we did try to, this guide would go on for far longer than it should!
With that in mind, we tried to put together a list of some of the
most popular attractions as well as ones with the highest ratings.
We also didn’t include anything that we personally haven’t been to.
This way, you know that you’re for sure going to love the activities
that you pick out!
However, there are some honorable mentions as well as hidden
gems that deserve a spot on this guide. Here they are in no
particular order:

Tennessee: Home of Pancakes
Sevier County, and perhaps Pigeon Forge especially, benefit from
arguably one of the highest concentrations of pancake houses in
America.
Nobody seems to really know why, although it has been
suggested that it started because loggers needed a filling
breakfast that provided lots of energy for getting through a full
day of logging. Others have said that it’s because pancakes are
the “breakfast of the south” and that no morning meal is
complete without a stack of them.
Regardless of the reason, we’re happy that there’s so many!
Especially since the areas also have arguably some of the best
pancake houses and breakfast places you’ll find anywhere. You
better come hungry!

Sevier County Restaurant Guide
If you’re a foodie and used to fine dining from the “big city”, you’re going to need to lower your expectations a bit when in the area. While the area
restaurants are generally staffed with super friendly folks and serve a good meal, don’t expect Michelin Stars or unique flavors. Expect grandma’s
