MALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

The male reproductive system is composed of several organs. It is responsible for producing
sperm cells and hormones. A sperm cell is important to fertilize an egg cell. Hormones are
responsible for the development of adult male characteristics.

The male reproductive system performs the following functions:

- Making Sperm
-Storing Sperm
-Delivering Sperm
-Producing Hormones

MALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM PARTS AND FUNCTION

1. Vas Deferens
➢ It is a long, muscular tube that serves as a passageway for the sperm cells released
from the testes. It also connects the testes to the seminal vesicle.
2. PENIS
➢ It is an accessory organ for reproduction that places sperm into the vagina during
mating.
3. URETHRA
➢ It is the passageway for both urine from the urinary bladder and semen from the
glands.
4. GLANS
➢ It is the tip of a penis.
5. TESTES
➢ These are the glands that produce sperm cells and male sex hormones. The testes
protrude outside the body because the temperature inside the main body cavity is warmer and
not suitable for the development of sperm cells.
6. SEMINAL VESICLE
➢ These are sac-like pouches attached to the vas deferens. It produces a sugar-rich fluid
that provides energy to sperm cells' motility.
7. PROSTATE GLAND
➢ It is a walnut-sized gland located between the bladder and the penis. It secretes fluid
that nourishes and protects the sperm.
8. COWPER’S GLAND
➢ It is also called the bulbourethral gland, one of the two pea-sized organs found beneath
the prostate gland. It is responsible for releasing fluid that flushes out foreign matter and
neutralizes the acidic urine in the urethra.
9. EPIDIDYMIS
➢ It is a narrow-coiled tube that stores immature sperm cells until they mature and where
they are temporarily stored before release.
10. SCROTUM
➢ It is a pouch-like sacs that support the testes, it controls its temperature.

FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

The female reproductive system is made up of several organs which include the ovaries,
fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, and vagina. It is specifically responsible for producing
eggs and supporting a developing baby inside a mother’s womb. The egg cell is only
one tenth of a millimeter, about the size of the diameter of a hair strand, and yet it is
the biggest cell in the human body.

The female reproductive system has the following functions:

1. production of female sex cells
2. production of female sex hormones
3. reception of sperm cells from the male
4. nurturing the development of and providing nourishment for the new

FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM PARTS AND FUNCTION

1. FALLOPIAN TUBE
- also known as the oviduct, it lies close to the ovary waiting for the egg to enter, it is a
tube that leads the egg from the ovary to the uterus.
2. OVARY
- produces egg cells and sex hormones.
3. CERVIX
- a narrow opening between the uterus and vagina which enlarges to let the passage of
a fetus during birth.
4. UTERUS
- it is also called the womb, it is shaped like an upside-down pear where the unborn
baby is developed.
5. VAGINA
- also called the birth canal, it is a hollow muscular tube that leads to the opening called
the vulva.
