BETWEEN
STUDY HABITS AND
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE
AMONG THE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENTS OF HOLY CROSS ACADEMY
SY 2024-2025
Presented by Loquere, Irene
Introduction
The critical role of study habits in
academic performance - presents
the challenges students face, such as
distractions and time management,
and underscores the importance of
exploring how study habits influence
academic success, particularly for
senior high school students.
Theoretical Framework
The theoretical framework draws on three key
theories: the Theory of Self-Regulated Learning,
which emphasizes planning and monitoring learning;
Behaviorist Theory, which suggests study habits are
shaped by reinforcement; and Attribution Theory,
which explores how students' perceptions of
success or failure impact their motivation and
academic outcomes."
Conceptual Framework
illustrates the direct relationship between
study habits and academic performance
Statement of the Problem
This study seeks to answer the following questions:
Students Parents
Teachers Policymakers
Scope and Delimitations
The study focuses on senior high school
students at Holy Cross Academy during the
2024-2025 academic year. It limits its scope to
respondents' age, gender, and academic
strand but excludes external factors such as
socioeconomic background, extracurricular
activities, and the differences between male
and female students or between ABM and
STEM strands."
Review of Related Literature
Studies highlight the importance of study habits in academic
performance. General habits like time management and note-
taking are crucial, with research showing that specific behaviors,
such as uninterrupted study time and regular reviews,
significantly enhance academic success. (Tus 2020, Rabia et al.
2017, Arockiasamy and Premalatha 2011 and Abdullah et al. 2015)
Synthesis
The reviewed literature underscores the importance
of specific study habits, such as time management,
note-taking, and regular reviews, in enhancing
academic performance. While general study habits
are important, a more focused approach to refining
these specific behaviors is crucial for improving
academic success."

Summary of Findings
The study revealed that time management
had the highest mean (4.2), followed by study
environment (3.9) and goal setting (3.3), while
note reviewing had the lowest (1.2).
Correlation analysis showed that time
management (r = 0.72) had the strongest
positive impact on academic performance,
followed by study environment (r = 0.60) and
goal setting (r = 0.50). Note reviewing had a
negative impact (-0.55), indicating its
importance in achieving better academic
outcomes.
Conclusion
Effective study habits like time management, goal setting, and
maintaining a good study environment significantly enhance
academic performance and satisfaction.
