College offers students a choice in modality of course offerings: face-to-face, hybrid/blended, online

the course of this semester.

their related text chapters. Through discussion, activities, writing assignments, quizzes, and a final exam
these outcomes and objectives will be successfully accomplished.

Cell Phones & Electronic Devices:

If you MUST have cell phones or electronic devices on during class, please set them to vibrate & leave

instructor. The use of phones or laptops during class is restricted to class-related websites, documents
and applications unless directed by the instructor.

Syllabus Intent and Acknowledgement - Getting Off to a Good Start:

The intent of this syllabus is to let you know what will be expected in this course & as a student in this
course it is essential that you read the syllabus in its entirety to become familiar with your instructor’s
specific policies. This will help to ensure your success. This document contains important information
about how the class will be conducted, policies, student responsibilities, information on coursework, and
expectations. Each student will be held accountable to these written standards. We are all entering this
semester with several unknowns. If we all remain flexible, patient, understanding, and kind…I
believe we will still have an amazing semester.

Statement of Change in the Syllabus

Unforeseen circumstances such as weather, instructor illness and class composition may make
some adjustment in the course schedule and procedures necessary. If the learning process will
benefit from such a change, you will be informed in a timely manner. This document is not a
contract, and the instructor reserves the right to modify aspects of the syllabus, schedule, and
assignments in order to meet the course objectives. College recognizes the right of the faculty
teaching the course to use professional judgment in making such adjustments.

Course Evaluation:
Grades will be based on a variety of student work, class participation, and workout hours. All work will be
graded on a point basis with all points being of equal weight toward the semester grade. A
comprehensive exam will be given at the end of the semester. To determine your grade simply divide
your “points earned” by the “total points” for the class. I will keep grades as up to date as possible in
our D2L course site.

Grades will be based on a traditional grading scale (listed below)

94-100% A 90-93% A- 87-89% B+ 84-86% B
80-83% B- 77-79% C+ 74-76% C 70-73% C-
67-69% D+ 64-66% D 60-63% D- Below 60% E

Assignments:
1. All assignments will have clearly announced due dates. These dates will be posted on
eLearning and announced in class.
2. All assignments are due ON the scheduled due date, unless otherwise indicated by the
instructor.
3. Missing work after an absence is YOUR responsibility! If you have missed class &
assignments, check D2L and contact me right away!
Attendance/Participation:
Attendance is “expected” in this class regardless of if we are in person or online. You are also
expected to participate in all workouts. 30 hours of activity are required to pass this course.
Hours will be attained during our in-person class meeting times AND on your own. Grades will be
reduced by 1 whole grade if these hours are not met. Each in person class period will be worth 10
points (5 for attendance/5 for activity participation).
 90 mins max/day
 Minimum of 20 mins/day
 Can’t “bank” hours up
 110 BPM or higher is the average required

LATE WORK POLICY:

It is the professor’s policy NOT to accept late work. Pay attention to deadlines and consider
making use of a planner or reminder tool in your smart phone--plan to turn in all assignments by
or before their posted deadlines. However, life is unpredictable, and in this class, we account for that in
two ways:
If extenuating circumstances warrant an extension on a deadline, one may be granted in extremely
limited circumstances. If a student believes that their circumstances warrant such an exception, it is the
responsibility of the student to communicate with the professor before, not after, the assignment
deadline. No extensions will be awarded after a due date has passed.

Because sometimes we are faced with a situation we couldn’t predict (like a dropped laptop or mandated
overtime) each student will be allotted one “late work exemption.” This late work exemption allows you to
turn in an assignment at the next scheduled class meeting. Simply email the instructor the late
assignment with the subject line “late work” and a brief note that states: your course/section number, the
assignment you’ve attached, and its original due date.

Assessments
All assessments will have clearly announced due dates. Due dates will be posted on eLearning and
announced in class. If you miss an assessment, you MUST let me know ahead of time. Makeup’s
MUST be scheduled and completed the same week as the originally scheduled quiz or test.

D2L and Email Etiquette: Students are responsible for checking eLearning AND their Delta email
account for course updates regularly (I recommend daily) throughout the semester. D2L is used in this
course to keep you up to date on assignments, class work and to supplement our learning. It will also be
used for assignment turn in, extra credit options, etc. Check daily!! We are in a professional
environment. It is important for communication to always remain professional. Avoid “text-speak” such
as “u” for “you,” or “r” for “are,” or all caps. Please adhere to basic email etiquette below. Failing to do so,
may result in an email back from me asking you to follow the proper email etiquette before your question
is answered or a loss of points.

Academic Integrity: Cheating & plagiarism will not be tolerated. Here is a short list of how I define
cheating & plagiarism:
● Directly copying work from others (your text, the Internet, or any other published source)
without giving proper credit is considered plagiarism.
● You ARE encouraged to work together in class but the work you turn in should be YOUR
own and should not closely resemble that of someone else.
● Discussing exam questions with a student who has not yet taken the exam is cheating.
● Supplying someone else with your answers. Cheating can be a two-way street.

According to Delta policy, the penalty for cheating or plagiarism ranges from receiving zero points to
being removed from the class for the semester. Please review the policy on Student Rights and
Responsibilities at located in Delta College Catalog [http://www.delta.edu/academics/catalog.html]

Important Information:
DROP/WITHDRAWAL FROM THE COURSE:
Drop for non-attendance: The College requires Faculty members to record class attendance and report
attendance to the College administration. During the first nine calendar days of this fifteen-week course,
the Faculty member shall drop any student who has never attended class, according to federal
guidelines. Dropping or being dropped from this course may have an impact on current or future financial
aid award; see a financial aid advisor with questions.

Self-withdrawal: Students can withdraw themselves up to the 80% mark of the course. Faculty can
identify the specific last date for you, and students may also access it in the Academic Calendar. To
withdraw from a course, students will need to submit a Student Request to Withdraw from a Course form.
Students request to withdraw is not finalized until Student Educational Services provides an intervention
informing the student of the implication of the withdraw. The student will have the opportunity to confirm
or decline their desire to withdraw. If a student decides to remain in the class, faculty are not expected to
accept late work or do any remedial instruction.

PASS/NO CREDIT, INCOMPLETE, AND LEAVE OF ABSENCE:

For students facing unexpected life circumstances or barriers to their academic success, the College
provides a variety of remedies, including taking the course as Pass/No Credit, taking an Incomplete in the
course, or applying for a Leave of Absence (which must be approved by The Office of the Dean of
Student Success). If you find yourself in extenuating circumstances or with a concern for your ability to
attend and/or be successful in the course, please contact Advising for more information about your
options: Office D102, email at [email protected], or call 989-686-9330. If you are facing a personal
crisis, please also consider reaching out to Delta College’s crisis counselors for support: Office D102,
email at [email protected], call during business hours at 989-686-9330 or after business
hours at 989-686-9113.

Diversity: Delta College values diversity as demonstrated by the posters displayed in most
classrooms. Diversity represents an environment of inclusion and equity that fosters creativity,
innovation and growth. We welcome and appreciate differences in identity, expertise, experiences, ideas,
and opinions. Teamwork and diversity are characteristics valued by today's employers and vital in a
global world. You are encouraged to work together as a team to get the most out of your learning
experience. Active learning, teamwork, and respect will be expected and rewarded in this class.

Disability Resources: At Delta College we strive to make your learning experience as accessible as
possible. If you have a disability that may interfere with your learning process it is your responsibility to
make the College aware of this fact. Please contact Melissa Wallace, Director of Disability Resources in
D-106 at 686-9332 or e-mail [email protected]. Delta College requires students with disabilities
to first register with the office of Disability Services before individual instructors can make
accommodations. If you have previously been involved in special education programs for academic
support your instructors will not know that unless you seek documentation from Disability Resources.
Once I have that in hand, I will do my best to accommodate your learning needs.

Civility: Our classroom environment will be one of mutual respect for everyone in the class. Students
who are not actively respectful will be subject to Delta’s Disruptive Students policy. Delta’s Disruptive
Students policy will also govern situations in which a student exhibits disruptive behavior. Under Delta’s
Disruptive Students policy, a student may be removed from the classroom for one class period or for an
entire semester. Choose your language carefully to ensure respect. Offensive use of the words “gay” or
“retarded” or similar targeting of any sort is prohibited. Please review the Disruptive Students Policy
under Student Rights and Responsibilities.

and pieces from several sources and submit this together as my own work.
c. I realize that my instructor may run all submissions through originality checking software
and if submitted work is plagiarized, it will receive 0 credit for the first offense and
notification to the Department Chair and the Dean of Health and Wellness will be made. A
