INTRODUCTION

Computers, for many people, have been a key factor in living in a modern
world. They offer access to efficient systems created by revolutionary minds. For ICT
students, computers serve as weapons to enhance their skills for the Technological
Industry. It is necessary for them to be prepared in the advancing modern world.
The researcher conducted this study to inform the ACTS colleges about the issue in ICT
1 and to seek a solution to the problem of ICT 1, which is 'Computer Deficiency. The
problems with computers in ICT 1 are the insufficient number of computers in the
classroom, and there are some broken parts that make it futile. Almost all of the
computers have their own problems that affect ICT 1 students. This deficiency hinders
students from performing well in class, especially in their major subjects. The computers
of the ICT 1 students have various problems that decrease productivity and can result in
poor performance. It also inhibits students from learning basic computer skills like
typing, programming, coding, and navigation, which cannot be effectively performed on
a mobile phone.
Computers play a significant role in the ICT field, which enables them to improve and
achieve their full potential. By having a reliable computer, students may be able to
access and learn all the necessary things needed in their field. It allows the individual to
excel in both academic and technical skills if used correctly. This research aims to foster
their computer skills, knowledge, and performance in academics that they can carry
until they enter a technological industry.
Background of the study
The researcher decided to make a title that is helpful in ICT, enhancing their knowledge
and skills in academic performance. This study focuses on the major problem that
currently cannot be fixed due to a lack of complaints about this matter. The computer is
the assigned equipment of the ICT 1 students, and it's the depiction of a weapon to
survive in their class. As Slaughter (2009) points out, “our world today has become the
electronic world” (p. 16). With technology driving the social lives of students, its use is
an effective way to promote student engagement, resulting in a passion for lifelong
learning. Most of the participants belong to a voucher holder that helps them enroll and
study at a private school. This shows that not all students can afford a computer.
However, the researcher found a way to express their feelings and voice by conducting
this study, which emphasizes the issue and opinions of possibilities to fix it. It's efficient
that each track and strand has proper equipment so that all students can improve
without buying expensive things. This research has a significant impact on the students
of the ACTS colleges. It gives suggestions and information to improve their teaching
that may help the teacher facilitate teaching effectively. Its purpose is to inform the
ACTS about the issue that must be fixed immediately to mold the students and be
prepared for the real-life situations that the students may face. According to Kofi Annan,
“Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress in
every society and every family.” They can bring this knowledge and skills into their lives
and cannot be forgotten unless they want to. As much as possible, the students must be
taught properly and effectively because, as time goes by, our world keeps developing
and technology is becoming a more dominant tool to survive. The researcher wants to
enhance the capabilities of the ICT 1 students to perform well in academic performance
and become outstanding students in the ICT field, which may lead to a better future.
The more the students know about technology and computers, the brighter the future
may be because of their vast knowledge and preparedness for handling technology.
This research aims to fill up what ICT 1 is lacking and to provide a standard-quality
education.
Statement of the problem
The ICT 1 grade 12 students at ACTS Colleges are facing a significant problem with the
deficiency of computers. This issue not only affects their preparedness for college but
also hampers their future prospects in the technological industry. The lack of computers
greatly impacts the performance of the ICT 1 students. Most of the computers have
defective parts, making it impossible for the students to use them effectively. Based on a
survey, the majority of the students are under the education voucher program, which
indicates that some of them cannot afford expensive items such as computers, laptops,
and good-quality cellphones. Some of the ICT 1 students are not computer literate,
and the computer deficiency has a significant impact on their ability to learn, explore,
and experience the world of technology. This delay in learning can hinder their overall
progress.
Furthermore, the school's WIFI (wireless fidelity), which is only accessible to selective
people, The limited connectivity prevents them from utilizing computers effectively. This
lack of access to WIFI (wireless fidelity) has a huge impact on the students, as it hinders
their productivity and academic performance. As the researcher observed, some
students also face financial difficulties, which prevent them from acquiring the
necessary equipment based on their chosen strand or specialization. These problems
are preventing the students from excelling in both academics and skills.
This study aims to solve the problems of ICT 1 written below and provide a better
quality education.
1. What are the problems?
A. Computer Deficiency
B. Financial Constraints
C. Limited access to WIFI
D. Lack of computer literacy

2. What are the impacts of the problems to the students:

A. Academical Field
B. Skill-related tasks
C. Physiological and Psychological Self

3. Is there a significant correlation between the respondent’s computer literacy level and
the main problem (Computer Deficiency)?

Hypothesis

Scope and Delimitation

The research (was/will be) conducted at the Asian Christian Technological School and
Colleges, Inc. for Grade 12 ICT 1 students with 43* students present in that said
section. This conduction utilizes the survey for the impact of computer deficiency on the
academic performance in the said section, and the range of the research is exclusive
only to the Grade 12 ICT 1 students of the said school.

This research also reflects on how students are left behind with other ITs because of
computer deficiency in their classrooms as most of the students in that section do not
even have their own desktop or only use internet cafés to practice computer
competencies. The practice covers the proper usage of the Microsoft Office products,
making of the HTML, etc.

However, some of the students may not be a part of this research in order to reduce the
possible answers that are totally not connected to the subject. The answers should be
limited to the topic that was written abovementioned, as well as the exclusivity of the
section in the research. That is due to other students from other groups or sections
conducting each other’s sections.

Identifying the problems of each computer may not be conducted if the teachers of the
Computer Systems Servicing or the head of the school do not allow students or even
the teacher of said subject to identify them. As such, some of the computers may have
either viruses, corruption of the applications on the computer, or lacking some of the
parts that may lead to further deduction of properly running computers. It may lead to
further deduction of computers still properly running or functioning.
