Lesson Plan for PE6RD-IIIb-2

Objective:

To describe the skills involved in dance.

Code:

PE6RD-IIIb-2

Grade Level:

Grade 6

Subject:

Physical Education

(1) Review

Begin the lesson by revisiting the previous session's topics on the importance of physical fitness and how
dance contributes to overall health. Ask students to share their favorite dance styles and any experiences
they have with dancing.

(2) Motivation

Show a short video clip of various dance performances from different cultures (e.g., ballet, hip-hop,
traditional folk dances). After the video, ask students how dancing makes them feel and why they think
dance is an important form of expression.

(3) Activity

Interactive Dance Workshop:

1. Introduction to Dance Skills (10 minutes):

o Explain the basic skills involved in dance, including rhythm, coordination, balance,
flexibility, strength, and expression.

o Use visual aids such as posters or slides to illustrate each skill.

2. Group Warm-Up (10 minutes):

o Lead the class in a fun warm-up routine that incorporates movements focusing on
flexibility and coordination.

o Encourage students to follow along and modify movements to suit their comfort level.

3. Skill Stations (30 minutes):

o Set up different stations, each focusing on a specific dance skill:

 Rhythm Station: Use percussion instruments (like tambourines or drums) for
students to practice keeping a beat.

 Coordination Station: Partner students for a simple dance sequence that

requires coordination.

 Balance Station: Provide balance beams or mats where students can practice
balancing poses.

 Flexibility Station: Teach basic stretching exercises that dancers use to improve
flexibility.

 Expression Station: Have students create their own short dance moves
expressing different emotions (happy, sad, excited).

o Rotate groups through each station, spending about 5-6 minutes at each one.

(4) Analysis

Gather the class together and discuss what they learned at each station. Encourage students to share
their experiences and difficulties faced in practicing each skill. Ask guiding questions such as:

 What skill did you find most challenging?

 How did working in pairs help you improve your coordination?

(5) Abstraction

Guide students to abstract the skills they practiced. Discuss how these skills can apply not only to dance
but also to other sports and physical activities. Emphasize the importance of these skills in everyday
movement and fitness.

(6) Application

Present students with a real-life problem: "Imagine you are organizing a school event that includes a
dance performance. What skills would you need to practice with your group to ensure a successful
performance?"

Encourage students to brainstorm and discuss in small groups how they would prepare for this event,
focusing on the skills learned during the workshop.
